Page 50 of Forever Fascinating

To the adorable BBB,

I’m so glad we took photos, too. I’ll admit, I look at them all the time, too.

Our type of crazy is completely nuts… but it’s ours and I’m not letting anyone say differently. That’s why this is just between us.

Our little secret!

I should be going to bed, yes, because I’m exhausted, and my eyes are crossing in front of the computer (kinda like our photograph)

Now, go eat! I’m going to get off of here and get some shut-eye.

Your forever date,

Jana

I’m going…I’m going.

Sweet dreams, think of me, and let’s hope my request gets approved quickly tomorrow so we can start planning. I cannot wait to see you.

BBB – Matthew

Jana sighed happily, read through his email, and unfolded her legs from where she’d been sitting on the couch for a few hours. Putting the chip-clip on her Funyuns, she couldn’t help but begin to think about what it would be like to see Matthew again, realizing that it didn’t matter about the location at all.

No, the more she spoke with him, emailed him, and talked to him – the more she realized that it would be very easy to fall for this wonderful guy.

Jana openedthe package that arrived in the mail three days later – and was stunned. Not only was there a simple Air Force T-shirt inside that could be played off as being supportive of her brother… but wrapped in a piece of paper that was taped, was something hard.

Carefully, she cut the tape with the edge of a razor blade, afraid to damage the paper, hoping Matthew wrote something on there. As she unfolded it slowly, taking her time, a small penny with a charm clasp attached to it fell out into her hand, bouncing, and landing on the table.

Picking it up, she couldn’t help but smile as she realized he’d sent her a charm – and a note.

For my incredible date,

I wanted to send you a little something because I was thinking about you – and a teaser. The charm is from me, here, in Afghanistan… and we’ll pick up our next charm for you together wherever we travel.

I can’t wait to see you again,

Merry Christmas, Jana!

Matthew

Stunned, she looked at the coin and studied it, seeing it was from Afghanistan – and within a few months? She would pair it with one from Greece, then Iceland, and who knows where else.

This was a beautiful Christmas gift from him… and she was touched that he would think to do something so clever, so unnoticeable, and something so private just for the two of them.

He was thinking of her, and she knew he’d picked a charm because he intended to add more to them. It was also something she could hide, if needed.

Jana sighed happily and immediately clipped it on her necklace, determined to get a charm bracelet later on when she had a few more pennies to dangle from it.

“Merry Christmas, my sweet Matthew,” she whispered aloud, kissing the penny and smiling.
