“I’m not,” she muttered, before sitting up slowly and pushing her hair back from her face. “Tell me I don’t have drool on my chin and that I’m not imagining things. Did you seriously bring me coffee in bed?”

“You look beautiful,” he chuckled easily, sitting on a small, cushioned stool nearby and couldn’t help the grin on his face as he watched her rouse herself. “Coffee in bed is nice, isn’t it? I thought it might help start the day because we were both so exhausted.”

“Mmmphh,” she grunted, frowning, and taking a sip of her coffee before sighing emphatically, closing her eyes. “Can I make a request?”

“Of course.”

“Coffee every morning,” she mumbled, taking another sip, before smiling wanly at him. “I feel like I could sleep for a few more hours.”

“Do you want to?”

“Not really,” she confessed, taking another sip and sighing happily, closing her eyes in bliss. “I’m going to get spoiled so fast by you doing this.”

“I’m glad,” he admitted. “I will happily bring you coffee every morning we are together here or in Iceland.”

“Iceland too?”

“If we have an in-room coffee maker – absolutely.”

“Heaven’s above this is nice…” she sighed, nodding, and sipping her coffee again. “How long have you been up?”

“Maybe ten minutes. Do you want to get the first shower or should I?”

“No, Mr. Sunshine…. You go ahead. I need my caffeine to cross the blood-brain barrier first before I get a shower or I might shave my eyebrows instead of my legs,” she muttered, burying her nose in her coffee mug again.

Matthew couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled up within him at how adorably grumpy she was in the mornings, nor the feelings that swelled within his heart.

“You got it, darling,” he said tenderly, getting to his feet and kissing the top of her head without a second thought, before walking into the bathroom to start the water so it could warm up.

CHAPTER19

JANA

Oh my gosh…coffee in bed… and his gorgeous smile? It was almost too much to handle so early in the morning, she thought numbly as she took the first sip of coffee, inhaling the dark aroma and willing herself to rouse fully.

She knew when the caffeine hit, because she got up and found herself drifting towards the sounds of the world outside. As she got close to the balcony, she heard cars below and people talking, seeing that the door was left open a crack.

For a moment she was afraid someone had tried to break in, but they were on the second floor, and the coffee pot behind her gave a tell-tale hiss as a reminder that Matthew had been in this room before her.

Opening the doors, she stepped out on the balcony and felt a surge of life hitting her veins as she surveyed the world below. Athens was breathtaking and simply more than she could have ever imagined. It was barely eight in the morning and already the city was bustling.

Cars were driving up and down the streets, almost in a wild manner, and she noticed that the pedestrians didn’t stroll right out, expecting the cars to stop. It looked like they were avoiding the chance of getting bumped by an automobile.

People were putting out their plants on the balconies and the aroma of food tickled her nose. She could smell yeast, coffee, and something sweet lingering in the air.

Hearing Matthew moving around behind her, she stepped back inside and felt a little nervous about being in such close quarters with him. His hair was wet, and he’d donned a T-shirt and jeans, looking almost as casual as he did last night.

“The bathroom is all yours,” he said easily, not looking over his shoulder. “I’m probably going to head down and make sure we have something to eat and ask for a few more towels. They only gave us two.”

“Thank you for the coffee,” she murmured.

“Of course,” he replied. “I’m taking a key, just in case, and leaving the other for you. I want you to have some privacy to get ready. Wear something comfy because I thought we could check out the city and maybe see one of the monuments.”

“I would really like that.”

Jana hesitated as Matthew straightened up and turned to make his way towards the door, walking past her, and stopped. She looked up at him, feeling herself melt as she met his gaze.

“I’m really glad we are here,” he said quietly. “Thank you for orchestrating almost all of this.”
