“Headphones helped,” X-Ray teased, laughing as he nodded at Hot Cakes, whose first name was Jace apparently.

They had all talked a little bit at Heathrow where their first layover was located, and Matthew tuned a lot out. He kept looking at some of the gorgeous women walking through the airport, and was a little disgusted at how they kept waving at Hot Cakes – who ignored them completely.

Vapor had slept like a baby on the flight, and with three girls phone numbers tucked in his shirt pocket, downing several free shots of alcohol… they were finally here. Even Caboose and X-Ray had a few free drinks from other passengers walking through.

Everyone loved a guy in uniform.

“We’re at DFW?”

“Yes.”

“Sweet…” Matthew acknowledged under his breath, standing up and stretching his legs immediately. “I’m ready to check out some cowgirls, eat some barbecue, and see what exactly a longhorn looks like.”

“Wow…” Hot Cakes chuckled openly, looking thoroughly amused. “Sorry to disappoint but that’s not what this place is like. I mean, you might see a picture of a longhorn or spot a statue in the distance, but they aren’t roving the plains like you are thinking. The barbecue is amazing… and define what you consider a ‘cowgirl’.”

“The big hat, fringed pants, boots, spurs, or…”

Jace laughed wildly as Caboose and X-Ray exchanged a knowing glance. Matthew felt like an idiot at that point and tried to cover it up.

“Dude, did you really think I was that dumb or stereotyped people like that?” Matthew began arrogantly. “Come off it, man… I can’t wait to meet some girls, period.”

“About that,” Jace said grimly, looking at the three of them. “There are going to be several women at the wedding, so please be on your best behavior. I really don’t want to get arrested on my trip, but Iwillput someone in the hospital if you touch my sister.”

“We’re just pen pals,” X-Ray said immediately, holding up his hands. “Just going to say, ‘hello’and talk. That’s it.”

“Not interested,” Caboose said bluntly, shaking his head. “Women are drama and I’m good.”

“Ughhhh no?!” Matthew said drawing back in horror and looking at the other man. “Your sister is completely safe – especially if she looks anything like you. We are good.”

Hey-a X-Ray…

This will be so cool to meet my online friend.

Yeah, I’m thrilled for my brother and Karen. He’s completely ga-ga over the woman and she’s truly a sweetheart. I’m here in Yonder already, making enough bows, swag, and ribbons to make Santa Claus envious at his workshop.

I think Karen wants some sort of décor on every little piece of furniture or something. I’ve twisted enough floral wire to make my fingers hurt and burnt myself on a hot glue gun more than I can count… but it’s all good.

Set aside a dance at the reception for me, friend!
