Zeeg was looking at the man that must be Alana’s father, and Vax noticed Alana’s spine snapping straight before she turned her head to look down the table. The human seemed small, though Alana had mentioned her father was an alpha, and his silvered hair appeared to be thinning.
“You reported bountiful harvests of your spring crops. Considering your daughter is the First Lady of Farcon 1, I’massuming you can have a shipment of fresh food on the way to help her new people in short order.”
The man was too far away for Vax to read his expression clearly, but it only took a breath for him to give a short nod.
“Certainly. I’ll send a message to load a ship and have it enroute within the week.”
“Considering what is in front of us, you may want to be quicker about it,” Zeeg said before turning away from the man.
Vax had to bite the inside of his lip to keep from smiling. Every Chancellor was supposed to be equal, but the richer planets tended to have more pull, and Decloui was a massive trade planet. Zeeg had his taloned fingers in just about everything, and he was not someone to ignore.
“Does anyone object to my proposal to dismiss the meeting?”
Silence reigned around the table as he gave the Chancellors a chance to speak before nodding his head. Meeting Vax’s gaze, Zeeg dipped his chin.
“Then I bid you all farewell.”
There was a pause before others began to stand, following Zeeg’s example as they announced their intentions to leave. A few approached Vax to let him know they would depart the following day, and the ones responsible for the investigation into the illegal mining would be staying since they still had to look into who else at Camp Primma was involved, but a majority of the Chancellors headed straight for their ships, calling for servants to bring their things.
It was a hectic scramble for a couple hours to deliver bags and arrange the launches, especially because the people of Farcon 1 had come out in force to watch the Chancellor’s retreat. They kept their promise, going so far as to remain silent while they frowned at the Council members, which was almost a harsher form of judgement.
Vax watched another ship lift into the sky from his office window, letting out a sigh and leaning back in his chair.
“That went better than expected.”
His lips lifted at Alana’s voice behind him, and he turned to see her walking across the room.
“Disappointed to be stuck with me after all?”
He raised his arms as he asked the question, motioning her to come around the desk. He pulled her into his lap, dropping his nose to her hair and sucking in a deep breath of her heady scent.
She was right.
The meeting had gone far better than he’d expected. And after struggling with the Council for the past year, there was a new hope growing that it might not be a constant fight with them. Zeeg’s show of support meant a lot, and it lifted a weight from him.
“Eh, I figure you’ve shown signs that you can be taught some manners, so being stuck with you won’t be so bad.”
She pressed herself against him, her smile clear in her voice though he couldn’t see it. He chuckled, twirling her hair in his fingers before tightening his grip and pulling her head back.
Alana let out a gasp, pupils expanding as she stared up into his face.
“You think you can civilize me?”
Her pink lips twitched, and she huffed as her brows rose.
“You and civilized do not belong in the same sentence. I just said you could be taught manners, though I doubt you’d use them.”
He smirked down at her, letting a low growl rumble from his chest before giving in to the urge to crush his mouth to hers. She immediately opened to him, her tongue twirling with his and sending a rush of blood straight to his cock. He’d had her only hours before, but he wanted her again. Wanted to bend herover his desk so every time he sat down to work, he’d have the memory of her spread across it.
Releasing his hold on her hair, he gripped her hips to turn her in his lap, but she resisted, pulling away from the kiss.
“I don’t know what you’re thinking, but I’m sore, and your door isn’t locked.”
He spun them in the chair, touching the controls on his desktop, the lock snicking into place. Alana’s brow rose. She was smiling, but she shook her head.
He stopped her as she opened her mouth to speak, leaning in to kiss her again as his fingers pulled up the fabric of her dress. It seemed to take forever, but he eventually felt the soft skin of her thigh beneath his hand, letting it slide up to cup her core over her panties.
Her hiss made him pull away, concern building in his chest.
