“We’ll talk about that later,” she said.
Hannah swung the door open and jetted down the hallway. Levi felt the glow inside him dim but not extinguish. He knew she was afraid. He could see it. He could sense it. There would come a right time for her to tell him even though the tiger whispering inside of him mostly knew what was going on.
Levi followed her outside to the parking lot and hopped into his Audi. It appeared smaller than before. He realized everything was going to seem smaller now.
“Ready?” Hannah said in the front seat.
“Ready,” Levi replied.

HANNAH
Hannah felt strange about Levi’s transformation. His energy was different, and she knew he was in an alpha state of being. Part of her liked finally having someone to rely on and take care of her. But the other part was slightly miffed that he was so adamant about finding Lincoln before notifying the feds.
Fear had surged through her body when he’d mentioned the whole mate concept. She had to get moving to shake that feeling out of her. Even though she knew for a fact that he was her fated mate, her human instinct to retract from connection was still highly present and palpable.
If they were going to head out to locate Lincoln and potentially take him on without the help of the feds or any other shifters, she needed to take control of her emotions. But it was exceedingly difficult to see Levi in his full, sexy alpha form, completely able to handle her power and desires at any given moment.
But that also meant that he could lose his shit at any moment. Fly off the handle and fuck everything up. And when it came to dealing with a terrorist, one couldn’t fuck up at all.
Hannah blew the hair out of her face as she buckled herself in. The strands had been down since her run in the woods and were starting to irritate her. She searched for a hair band in the car, trying to remember whether she had left one there.
Levi nearly ripped the seat belt out as he went to buckle it. It was hard for Hannah not to giggle.
“Jesus,” she whispered.
“That’s not my name,” Levi said with a wink.
Hannah started the car and headed out in the direction Nick had texted. They were headed to Lincoln’s facilities, which Nick’s agency had detected while they were in the woods making love.
They weren’t on the road very long before Levi’s stomach started to growl, quite literally.
“Pull over,” he ordered.
They had been silent for most of the ride, so the sound of his deep voice startled Hannah out of her thick-hazed rumination.
“We’re making time,” Hannah said, stepping on the gas.
Levi placed a hand on the wheel but didn’t turn it. Hannah flicked her glare at him to see his fangs had protruded. He was looking at her like a vampire hunting blood.
“We’re eating first,” he hissed. “Unless you think you’d be sufficient enough of a meal?”
A smile curled Hannah’s lips. She pulled over at the next steakhouse, not quite ready to give Levi the reins on the mission.
“In and out,” she said, unbuckling her seat belt. “We eat, but we don’t dawdle. Got it?”
Levi’s teeth glimmered at her as he ripped the door open, a look of mischievousness that she had never seen on his face.
“But, of course, my lady,” he said.
The restaurant was packed full, which made Hannah a little wary. But once she realized how giant Levi had become, she settled down. No one was going to look at this wolfman type and try to fuck with him or her in the slightest degree.
That included the way he was eating his four large sirloin steaks.
Hannah watched with great amusement at how he picked up the steaks in his hands, then proceeded to tear the meat apart like a wild animal. Most of him was, of course, that exact wild animal, searching for sustenance in whatever fashion he reckoned.
But Hannah figured that not everyone in the restaurant would understand that.
