I smile at him. “You really are the whole package, you know that?”
He just grins and I lift up my chin to him and he takes my lips in a firm kiss. It feels like sealing the deal on my future.
And I’m perfectly happy with what I see.

Sometime in the future
Jane
The summer sun shines down in bright streaks of light as the breeze blows my hair around my face, the little cottage we’ve been staying in since arriving in Italy is the perfect home away from home and has me dreaming up all sorts of ideas for our future house.
“I don’t know, baby. Maybe we should just move to Italy and call it a day,” I say to Warren, who’s been hunched over a sketchpad every second we’ve had downtime since we got here.
I don’t mind, I brought a small stack of books I’ve been burning through and have picked up several more during our travels.
“Okay, Janie,” he responds without looking up.
I smile at him and sigh, letting the setting sun rest on my face.
It’s been forever since I’ve been on a vacation and this was a real one. No work, no texts or calls home—my phone stayed off for the most part—and I had the man I love dearly by my side.
An hour later, as the sun is practically set, making it hard to read outside without getting up to turn on the little lights out here—lights I took pictures of so I could buy them for our future home—I look over at Warren and watch his brows furrow as he concentrates.
“You getting hungry? Where should we head tonight?” I ask, setting my book to the side and sitting up in the chair, stretching my arms above me.
Warren’s head shoots up, his eyes slightly wild as he looks side to side, noting the darkness that’s encompassed us and looks at me. “What time is it?”
I lazily lift my wrist and glance at my watch. “Mm, almost eight. Why?”
“Shit,” he mumbles and gets up, rushing into the room and setting his things on the table, I watch in fascination, following him slowly into the room.
“You okay?” I ask and reach for my light sweater, throwing it on and slipping on my flats. I love this easy, slow lifestyle that the Italians all seem to live by. I could definitely get used to the sundresses and no-makeup days I’ve been enjoying here.
Since I started dating Warren, he’s helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin, helped me own so many things in my life that I could be proud of.
I’ve changed a lot and I think it’s all for the better.
Right now, I was working on changing quite a few things at work. I was going to make the workplace more accessible for women who wanted to be moms and work a job outside of the home as well.
And I was working with Molly and Erika to get together a program for the homeless woman at the shelter to start the transition to work at Leads Energy—those who could and wanted to—with childcare included.
It was a big deal and had taken some time, but we were well on our way to making it happen.
Surprisingly, my own mother was wanting to be involved in it as well. She and I still had our issues and plenty to work through, but we were doing our best.
