“It’s almost time to go,” I announce.
“I know, but I don’t want to go. Can’t we just stay here together like this forever?” she asks.
The offer is tempting, but realistically, we both know it would be impossible.
“I wish we could,” I say.
“When will I see you again?” she asks.
“Soon, I promise. It won’t be long before we’re in each other’s arms again. I have a few interviews coming up this week and next, but after that, I’ll come out to Hollywood to visit you. And I promise, we’ll talk on the phone every day. At least three times a day. I’ll call you every morning and every night and sometime throughout your busy day. We can make this work,” I say.
Something is bothering her; I can tell by the look in her eyes.
She has her doubts, I can see. I don’t blame her. I know first-hand how hard it can be to date in the music industry. Love is rare in our world, but that’s why you have to hold onto it when you find it. I didn’t think I would ever find something as special as what we have, but now that I have, I’ll treasure her for the rest of my life.
“What is it?” I ask softly.
“It’s nothing,” she says as tears flood her eyes.
I pull her closer and gently stroke her arm.
“Baby, don’t cry,” I whisper as tears run down her cheek. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
“I just don’t want to leave you. These last two months have been amazing. I don’t want the tour to end. I want to stay on the road with you,” she says.
“Babe, we’re still going to see each other, just not every day,” I remind her as I wipe away her tears.
“I know, but I’m going to miss you so much,” she sobs.
“I’m going to miss you, too. But we won’t be apart for long,” I promise.
I gently kiss her forehead and run my fingers through her hair as she weeps on my chest. It hurts my heart to listen to her crying.
“You’re going to be so far away. I won’t be able to see you, touch you, or kiss you. It’s going to be so lonely without you by my side,” she says between sobs.
“We can video chat, so you’ll still get to see me. And when we are together, I promise, I won’t let you out of my arms.”
She buries her face in my chest and continues to weep. It’s going to be hard on me, too, to be away from her for that long. We’ve been together every day since the moment we met. I’m used to waking up with her by my side, so it’ll be tough going back to sleeping in bed alone every night.
I hold her face in the palm of my hands and brush away her tears with my thumbs. Even when she’s crying, she’s still the most beautiful woman in the world. Her lips quiver as she sobs. I kiss them softly, hoping my kiss can stop her weeping.
She places her hands on my chest as her sobs cease. I wrap my arms around her as our kiss turns from a peck into a fiery lip-lock. Damn, I’ll miss her lips. She pulls away and stares into my eyes.
“Leo, I love you with all my heart. No matter what happens, I need you to always remember that,” she says.
“Of course, and I love you. Nothing could ever change the way I feel about you,” I reply confidently.
I’m not worried about being away from her for long periods of time because I know the bond we share is strong enough to withstand anything. The distance doesn’t scare me, and neither does our busy schedules. I’ll make time for her because she’s worth it. The alarm goes off, and we both glance at the time.
“It’s time to get ready to leave,” she announces.
“Yeah,” I agree as I turn the alarm off.
I want to stay here just as badly as she does, but it’s time to go. We performed at our last concert last night here in Oklahoma City, and now it’s time for us to fly in opposite directions back to our homes.
I hold onto her for a little while longer, still not ready to let her go. This is really it. The tour is over, and we’re leaving each other. We slowly rise up from the bed, both of us reluctant to leave. She stares into my eyes, begging me not to leave. My heart melts as I stare back into them.
I push her curls out of her face as I stare at her natural beauty. Leaving her is probably the hardest thing that I’ve ever had to do. I know this isn’t the end, but it sure feels like it. I pull her back in and hold her tightly as I kiss her goodbye.
