“Yes.” He pumps his little fist in the air. “I really, really want you to be my mommy.”
I grin. “Okay, then it’s settled.”
“You’re going to be my sister!” Amelia squeals. She lets go of me and wraps her arms around her best friend.
My sisters are the first to come up and congratulate us, including a FaceTime with Jess. She has an event coming up but wanted to be here anyway possible.
When Maureen approaches me, she brings me into her arms and kisses my cheek. “I’m so happy for the both of you. Can I tell you something?”
“Of course.”
“I knew you were the one the first time we met you. My son might be dense and slow at times, but I knew he would come around and I’m so glad he did. Welcome to the family, Sam.” She hugs me again and John is right behind her with a hug of his own.
The next few minutes are a blur as Josh’s brothers congratulate us, as well as some other people from town.
I’m standing with my sisters, looking around at all the people who came out to help Josh with this surprise. I never expected when I moved back to town I would fit back in as if I never left, find my passion for baking again or find the man of my dreams. Not to mention having another child. I always wanted a big family like the one I grew up in, and a year ago I would have told you it would never happen.
I spot Josh heading towards us with the biggest smile on his face. He pulls me from my sister’s and wraps me in his arms. “Hi, wife to be.”
I smile. “Hi, husband to be.”
“Did I ever tell you I don’t like surprises?”
“Umm. I don’t think so.” I look at him nervously.
“Well, I don’t, but you showing up in my life and being surprised by love is the best damn surprise I’ve ever had.”
He lowers his lips to mine in a sweet but passionate kiss, and I wonder how he’ll take the next surprise. I haven’t told him yet, but—we’re having twins.

Sam
Two Weeks Later
“Surprise.”Thecrowdofpeople standing in our living room shout as Josh and I enter the house.
I’m in shock. How in the world did they get this together without us finding out? I look around and see all my family, including Jessica and her boyfriend, Stewart. Josh’s parents, along with his sister Savannah, Ethan, and Lucas. The only one missing is Ryan.
I smile as I watch my best friend Tiff running back and forth, making sure there’s enough food and drinks for everyone. She motions for Jess towards the kitchen, with Stewart following behind. There is something about him I’m not sure I like, even though I haven’t actually met him yet. It’s just a feeling I have.
Brandon shows up with a beautiful centerpiece for the table in the dining room. “Sorry I missed the surprise,” he says, kissing me on the cheek.
“It’s okay.” I look at the colourful flowers in a soft grey ceramic vase. “They’re beautiful. Thank you.”
He places them on the table. “You’re very welcome.”
Josh joins us and gives his best friend a hug and a pat on the back. “Good to see you, man. Thanks for the flowers.”
“No, problem.” Brandon looks from Josh to me. “Congrats on the engagement. It’s about time someone snagged this guy.” He punches Josh in the shoulder.
“Hey, you just wait. Your time is coming.”
Brandon barks out a laugh. “Ha. Not likely, brother.”
Josh laughs and I watch them joke with each other like actual brothers. Josh pats Brandon on the shoulder. “Go get yourself a drink and some food.”
“Don’t mind if I do,” he says and heads towards the makeshift bar we have in the living room.
