“It does smell amazing in here,” he agrees, takes off the oven mitts, places them on the counter, then turns to me, our bodies close. He looks me in the eye, then down to my lips and back again. He has that look in his eyes again and I don’t want to read too much into this, but the way he’s looking at me right now, I swear he wants to kiss me.Just do it.
“Sam, I need to ask you something.” His tone is serious.
“What’s that?” I say, a little breathless.
“Are you dating Miles Brooks?”
“What? No.” I shake my head rapidly. “We just had one date.”
“Are you going to see him again?” His voice is harsh and gravely.
“Well, I’ll probably see him at the hardware store or around town, but not to date.”
“Good,” he growls. He actually growled, and I kinda like that sound.
“Good?”
He nods. “Yes. very good. I want to kiss you, but I don’t want to if you’re interested in someone—”
“I am,” I cut him off. His eyes drop and he looks… sad. “I’m interested in you.”
Chapter Seventeen
Sam
Ican’tbelievehowbold I am, putting that out there like that. I’ve never been one to just say what I’m thinking, but the way Josh is looking at me must have given me the courage I needed to tell him how I felt.
The corner of his mouth curls up, his gaze locking with mine. “Okay. I’m going to kiss you now.”
Before I can respond or even take a breath, his hands are on my waist and he’s pulling me forward. His lips crash over mine.Josh is kissing me. Holy shit, Josh is kissing me.
I bring my hands up, resting them on his shoulders as he pulls me closer. My breasts pressed up against his muscular chest, my thighs rubbing against his. His one hand tangles in my hair, the other moving up and down my back. Goosebumps rise to the surface. I lower my hands, squeezing his biceps.
He deepens the kiss. The hard pressure of his mouth is demanding, but not forceful. I can’t help it, but I want more.
A soft whimper escapes my lips. Josh takes that moment to sweep his tongue into my mouth, moving it around as if searching for something. I don’t think I’ve ever been kissed like this before, with so much passion.
My whole body shivers as Josh’s hand trails down my spine until he is squeezing my ass. I never felt so wanted or needed. The way Josh is making me feel, I never want this feeling to end. Is this what it’s supposed to feel like? Is this what I’ve been missing?
I get lost in the kiss, our tongues dancing as one. My hands travel up and down his back, feeling every muscle. His body tenses and he holds me tighter, his kiss growing more hungry. The heat radiating between us is making me feel like I’m about to explode.
I’ve never had sex on a first date, but the way Josh makes me feel, I can see temptation. Not that this is a date, but my God. This man knows how to kiss and the way he uses his tongue. I can imagine how it would feel if he…
Josh abruptly steps back, stopping the kiss. Both of us, breathing hard. I bring my fingers to rest against my swollen, sensitive lips.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to get so carried away.” He steps closer, pulling my hand away. He brushes one of his fingers across my lower lip. “Are you okay?”
“Hu-huh,” I mumble, not sure if I could form any words at the moment. I’m still trying to catch my breath. I have never been so thoroughly kissed in my life and I want more.
“That was…” Josh says.
“Yeah, one hell of a kiss,” I say, finally able to talk.
He chuckles. “Yes, it was.”
We stand there staring at each other when Josh breaks and looks at the kitchen island, then back at me. “As much as I would love to do that again, I think we need to make the rest of the cookies before the kids get home.”
I take in a breath. “You’re right. Let’s do it.”
