“Yes, please, and I’d like to talk to you.”
“Okay,” she says, suddenly looking nervous.
“It’s nothing bad.” I can’t help but laugh.
“I hope this doesn’t seem presumptuous, but I asked Vicki if she’d be okay with watching Amelia tonight.”
She looks at me with a curious smile.
“Would you like to go on a date with me?”
Her smile brightens, and she laughs.
My brows knit together. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing, I feel like a teenager… being asked out by the hottest guy in school.”
I raise a brow. “The hottest guy, huh?”
She nudges me and starts giggling.
“Well? Don’t let the hottest guy stand here waiting. He’s dying to know if the sexiest girl in town wants to go on a date.”
She giggles again, her cheeks flush. “I’m hardly the hottest girl in town.”
“You are in my books.” I lean forward and kiss her on the cheek.
“When?”
“Tonight. If it’s okay.”
“Where are we going?”
“It’s a secret.” I wink.
Sam shakes her head. “What should I wear?”
“Something comfortable.”
I know now; she isn’t one to dress up much and I don’t want her to be uncomfortable on our first official date.
Sam looks as if she is seriously thinking about it, which makes me a little nervous.
“Well? Don’t leave me hanging. What’s it going to be? Do you want to go out with me?”
She grins and nods her head. “Yes, I would love to go on a date with you.”
I place a soft kiss on her lips, not caring who sees.
Her eyes go wide as she looks at me and then looks around the diner to see if anyone saw.
“I don’t care if anyone saw me kiss you, Sam.” Reaching over the counter, I take her hand in mine. “I like you, and I don’t care who knows it.” I grin.
She lowers her head, but not before I see her cheeks redden.
“Hey, what did I say about you blushing? Never hide it. I like the idea of making you blush.”
She looks up at me and leans over the counter to give me a quick kiss.
