Can I see a future with Sam? I’m not sure it’s still very early, but I’d like to see where this goes. I turn my face to Sam and wink, placing my hand under the table, giving her thigh a soft squeeze.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Josh

There’saknockatthe front door, and I know exactly who it is. It’s been a week since our first date and although I see Sam at the diner every morning. I can’t wait to see her beautiful face. Before I can get up off the couch, Emily jumps up and runs to the door.

“They’re here!” she yells, as she opens the door.

“How many times have I said not to open the door without asking who it is first?” I say, as I reach the door.

“Sorry, Daddy, but I knew it was Amelia. You said they were on their way.” She takes a quick look up at me, then grabs Amelia’s hand and yanks her into the house.

“True, but it doesn’t mean someone couldn’t have shown up before them,” I explain.

Emily wraps her arms around her new best friend for a big hug. “Okay daddy, I will remember next time, I promise.”

She pulls Amelia off to the side and helps her out of her pink snowsuit.

“Sorry about that. I’m still trying to drive it into her head,” I say, looking at Sam. I take a long look at her in her red ski jacket with her raven curls draped over the faux fur-trimmed hood. She is absolutely gorgeous.

I open the door wider and gesture for her to enter. “Come on in.”

“Thank you, and it’s not a problem. I have the same issue with Amelia,” Sam chuckles as she enters the foyer of the house.

Sam unzips her jacket. “Here, let me help you,” I say, standing behind her. I remove her jacket and hang it on the coat rack in the corner.

“Thank you.” Sam smiles.

Her smile drives me crazy. She has perfect white teeth and her full lips are a soft pink that shimmer a little. Does the lip gloss have a flavour to it? I want to kiss her right there and find out. But, this isn’t the right time. The kids are in viewing distance, playing on the carpet in the great room, and they don’t know we’re dating. Are we dating? I haven’t asked her yet and this might be crazy, but it’s exactly what I want.

Sam bends over and removes her boots. I can’t help but take a good, long look at her perfect ass. Those jeans fit her like a second skin, and I want to peel it right off of her.Calm down, man. This is a night for the kids, not for you. You will have your chance soon enough.

Sam places her boots on the mat along the side of the taupe painted wall. When she stands up, I place a chaste kiss on her lips. I had to. I feel this pull and it makes me want to be as close to her as I can, and I can’t stop myself from kissing her whenever I get the chance.

“Come on, let’s see what the kids are doing.”

Sam

Josh places his hand at the small of my back and leads me out of the foyer. I can feel the warmth of his fingers and the smallest of touches from Josh sends jolts of electricity through me.

We enter the great room and I see Jake sitting on some big foam mats placed on top of the hardwood floor. He’s playing with his toy cars in front of the roaring fire.

The girls are sitting on the love seat laughing and playing a video game on Emily’s Nintendo Switch.

We enter the kitchen, and I close my eyes, taking a deep breath in. “Mmm… It smells so good in here!”

“I think it’s almost done,” Josh says, as he walks to the stove. He lifts the lid of the stainless steel pot, grabbing the wooden spoon and gives the sauce a little stir. “Come, taste this.” He scoops up a bit of sauce.

I walk over to him, open my mouth as he lifts the spoon to my lips. I look into his eyes and open my mouth for a taste. “Mmm,” I moan, closing my eyes.

I lick my lips, “That is sooo good!” I say, dragging out the word.

“Glad you like it.” He smiles.

“Can I help with anything?” I ask.

“Can you make a salad?”
