Page 83 of Surprised By Love

I shake my head and laugh. It feels good to laugh again. I’ll admit I miss Josh and would love to go to his place on Saturday night. I take a deep breath. I’m nervous, but I know she’s right. “Okay. I’ll call him to make sure our Friday plans are still on. But I’ll be texting you.”

Vicki grins like the cat who ate the canary, wrapping me in a hug. “She’ll be fine. I promise.”

“Wait! You’re going to his place?” Jessica asks, as I get ready for my second date with Josh. It’s been eight days since the incident with Amelia. Josh comes in everyday for his morning coffee and every day he kisses me goodbye with no care in the world who is there to see it.

“Yes.”

“For dinner and to watch a movie?”

“Yes.”

“You’re going to have sex.” She smiles so big all her teeth are showing.

“I am not.” I shake my head.

“Uh, yes you are.” She nods.

“Why would you say that?” She’s making me more nervous than I already am.

“Look at what you’re wearing.”

I turn to my full-length mirror and see the maroon colored cotton dress with the dropped shoulder and long sleeves that Jenna commented on when I was getting ready for my first date with Josh. “I wasn’t sure if I should wear jeans or a dress and since he’s making dinner, I went for the dress. Is it too much?”

“No. You look amazing. Are you wearing sexy underwear?”

I hesitate.

“You are… see sex. You’re going to get some.”

“I’m not. I just wanted to feel pretty.” Not sure if I’m trying to convince her or myself.

“Bullshit… did you shave?”

“What?”

“Did you?”

I debate on telling her.

“You did, didn’t you?”

I roll my eyes. “Maybe.”

“Ha. Nailed it! You are planning to get down and dirty with Sergeant Prescott.”

“No. I’m not. I’m being prepared in case.”

Jess snorts. “You are such a liar.” Once she settles herself down, she continues. “Seriously though. It’s been what, two years since you had sex, right? Don’t stress over it. If it comes up—” She cracks up laughing again and I shake my head, trying not to laugh. “See what I did there?” She wiggles her eyebrows and I can’t help but laugh. My sister is such a dork.

“If you get to that part, go with whatever feels right. If you want to stop, then stop, but something tells me you won’t.” She grins. “I love you Sammie. I just want to see you happy, and I haven’t seen you this happy in years. Being back in Sunset Creek is good for you… and Josh… I think he is, too.”

I wish Jess would come back home, then we would all be together again. Maybe someday. “Love you too, sis, but I need to get going—”

“Go, don’t keep the sexy Sergeant waiting. Knock him dead.”

I’m a nervous wreck as I climb the stairs of Josh’s house. Is this going to be dinner or is there going to be more? Does he want more? Do I? Of course I do. Who am I kidding? Jessica was right. I shaved my legs and put on nice panties, just in case.

I breathe in and let out a long breath before raising my hand to the door. Before I’m able to knock, the door opens. Josh is standing there with that charming smile on his face. The one where his dimples are so prominent. I hope he didn’t see me hesitating.
