I feigned incredulity. “You mean you didn’t stop at the office yesterday and get an itinerary of the day from Ellen?”
“You didn’t tell me to do that.”
“Well, what exactly did you think this job was?” I threw my hands up in an exaggerated movement. “Or am I supposed to tell you before you make every move?”
“Over the phone yesterday, you said, and I quote, ‘You will do everything I tell you to.’ I took that to mean that I take orders directly from you. I did exactly as you asked.” There was a bite in the last sentence, along with a smile dripping with sarcasm.
Ah, there was the snark I was looking for.
I sighed like the whole thing was a big inconvenience, rubbing my temples. “Great. Now I have no clue what I’m supposed to be doing this morning and who I’m supposed to meet.”
“If it makes you feel any better, I’m sure that person will be glad for the extra sleep.”
I smirked at her, thinking this might finally be the moment she spoke up. “Do you have a problem with the time, Ms. Peyton?”
She shook her head. “Not at all.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“Yep.”
“Because you know you can tell me if you have a problem.”
She shook her head definitively. “Nope.”
The problem was even worse than I thought.

We endedup driving around the city aimlessly. I took her to some of the warehouses and explained the origin, the content produced, and what chain of my business it was a part of. I told her she would need to come to do routine checks with the operations manager to make sure everything was going according to plan.
Then I had her set up five meetings for the afternoon, all of which she had to attend. She also had to memorize ten files by the end of the day, and I told her I would quiz her on the contents of each of them.
The plan was to completely overwhelm her with so much work that she eventually cracked that stiffly accepting demeanor.
But throughout the day, I didn’t see any signs of her cracking. Instead, I saw her eyes widen with interest, absorbing all the information I was giving her. She didn’t take down too many notes, but Georgia has always been exceptionally smart with an incredible memory. I knew she was taking mental notes of what she may need.
Eventually, we arrived at the office. When we entered the CEO lounge, Ellen was there, and she looked surprised to see me walk in with Georgia.
“This is Georgia,” I introduced her as we got close. “She’s my new personal assistant. The two of you will be working closely together, so I need you to show her around. Eventually, you’ll be taking orders from her when I’m too busy.”
Ellen’s eyes narrowed, and I didn’t miss the dirty look she gave Georgia. My secretary was very territorial about her job, and I was sure that having another woman who now held more authority over her must sting.
“Of course, sir,” Ellen bit out through gritted teeth. She got to her feet and gestured to Georgia. “Come. I’ll tell you where everything is.”
“Sure.” Georgia didn’t look happy about being led away by Ellen either, but she went along with it.
“Pay attention because I don’t like repeating myself,” Ellen said as they walked out.
“Yes,” Georgia said, and I smiled. I knew Ellen was the perfect person for the job. No one knew how to haze an employee quite like her, and hopefully, that would be the kick in the ass Georgia needed to lose it already.
“Come back when she’s done,” I called out.
Hopefully, by the end of the day, there would be a fight.
