Garret looks between James and me before finally letting out a sigh and nodding. “Fine. For you, Olivia. I’ll be right outside.” He glares at James. “Don’t try anything with her.”
James only smirks harder as Garret walks away.
Once Garret’s out the door, James says, “He’s in love with you, you know.”
“Possibly. It makes it easier to get him to do what I want.”
James’s eyes darken. “You’re not in love with him, are you?”
“What? No!” I laugh at the thought.
He crosses his arms. “You were awfully close, touching him like that.”
“Why? Are you jealous?”
“Yes, I am.” I’m not expecting such a bold statement from him. He touches my waist, and I instantly feel on fire. “You’re mine now. You know that?”
I inhale deeply. “I do.”
“Good,” he growls. He lets go of my waist and approaches the ring, stepping back inside it. “Then come on. Let’s see what you can do.”
CHAPTER5
Oliva
“You want me to get in the ring?” I ask him. “Why?”
“If you’re gonna be my girl, I need to see how much you can handle yourself. So … get in.” He lifts the rope higher.
I place my hand on my hip and cock my hip out to the side. “I thought I was already your girl.”
The look he gives me sends a jolt of energy right to my core. My body feels warm and cool at the same time. “You are. So get in.”
“You don’t get to boss me around, you know. You’re not my husband yet.”
“No, but since you aremine, I get to order you to come into this ring.”
I huff, dropping my hands at my sides. “Fine.” I walk up to the ring, and James helps me in. I maneuver in a way so that my dress doesn’t ride up too much as I lift my leg over the rope. James eyes my thigh as my dress moves up, but I quickly push it back down. He’s not my husband yet. I can’t give him too many ideas. “Now, what?” I ask once I’m standing before him in the ring.
“Now, show me what you got.” He lifts his fists and eases into a fighting stance.
I just laugh. “James, I’ve never been taught to fight, and I’m in a dress. What were you expecting to happen?”
“Just try to hit me.”
“Why?”
“Because I want to see the fight in you.”
So that’s what he wants from me. Well, fine. If James wants to see me fight, I’m not one to back down from a challenge.
Today, I’m no longer the good Irish mafia princess. I’m just a girl having fun with her fiancé.
“Ok.” I mirror his fighting stance. James looks at me as if I’m cute for trying, then I lunge forward and try to punch him. He blocks my hit with so much ease I don’t even see it coming. So I try again. And again. And again. Each time, James blocks my hits.
Finally, I give up. “This is pointless. I’m never going to be able to hit you.”
“I figured. But I wanted to see what I’m working with.” He circles me till his chest is pressed into my back. I can feel his breath on the back of my neck, making me shiver. “I want to show you how to handle yourself in a fight.” Goosebumps break out on my skin as he trails his fingers lightly up and down my arms.
