He growls as we pick our speed. I can’t quite believe we’re fucking like wild animals in the locker room of the fighting ring. Anyone could enter, which just makes me more aroused and ready to come.

With every shifting of our hips, pleasure spikes across my body.

“James,” I cry out, throwing my head back as I come, my body tightening before releasing.

“Fuck, baby.” He burrows his head into my neck as his release takes over him.

He pulls me in tight to him as we let our bodies calm down, and I cling to his shoulders for support as James plants lazy kisses against my neck.

Finally, he presses his head to mine, and we look at each other, our bodies tangled.

I think James might say something, but instead, he kisses my forehead in a sweet gesture that makes me feel like I could cry.

Whatever is happening between James and me is intense.

I wonder if I’ll ever feel fully calm with him or if our relationship is destined to be one of passion and turmoil.

All I know is that I can’t get enough of this man, which scares me because his words come back to me.If I fuck up, will you still want to be with me?

He has the power to break my heart, and I’m powerless to stop it.

CHAPTER14

James

Istill have to break the news to my men that Finian is dead. In the past week, I’ve called off meetings to figure out what to say. Finian was a favorite among my employees, and I’m not sure how they’re going to react to his death.

Especially since I killed him for my wife.

I enter the underground fighting ring, where we hold a lot of our meetings during the day when no one else is around. My men are already here, lounging around the room, chatting among themselves, without a care in the world.

“Hey, boss,” Jacob, one of my newer employees, calls out. “Why haven’t we had any meetings in a while? I haven’t heard anything from Finian. What’s going on?”

“Yeah.” The word echoes around the room as all my men nod in agreement.

I motion for them to gather closer. “I have some news, and I’ve been putting it off because I knew it might upset you. Finian is dead.”

The room goes silent, filled with a heaviness that makes my head start to pound.

“What the fuck do you mean, he’s dead?” another of my guys, Zack, asks. “How did this happen? When did this happen? Was it those fucking Italians trying to enter our territory again?”

“Or was it because he died in another fire working for you?” Jacob accuses.

I stand there, silent, with my hands on my hips. Let them get their anger out and vent. I’ve had time to process Finian’s death. They haven’t.

My men look around at each other, muttering amongst themselves.

Once it seems they're done venting, I hold up my hand. “Finian died because I killed him.”

More silence.

Then, chaos blooms.

Everyone starts talking at once. I hear words like “bastard,” “fuck this,” and “what the hell?”

“Do you want me to explain?” I speak loudly over the din of their voices.

They all shut up and listen.
