“That’s so cool,” I say softly, my excitement dulled by my heavy heart.

Tommy throws his arm around me and kisses my cheek before he takes a bite. “What a night, IzzyB.”

“It was pretty shitty, wasn’t it?” I take a bite and suck a tiny bit of greasy goodness off my thumb. “In those messages he sent to Scott...he said I mean nothing to him...and for the life of me, I can’t figure out why that’s fucking me up so much.”

“You’ll get over it. You’re resilient like that.”

“Yeah.” I drop my head onto his shoulder. “At least I have you because, honestly, I would not be coping if it weren’t for you, Tommy.”

“I’m always going to be there.” He reaches down to adjust my right boob. “These puppies would run wild without me. On the plus side, we can both say we’ve been on the radio. Good one for the bucket list.”

“That is a plus. Also, Jason is finally going to get fired.”

“AndI helped some mom out there finally accept her son’s sexuality. That made the whole shitty night worth it for me.”

I bend over to lift the two bottles of soda he bought for us and hand him one. “Well, then, let’s drink to that, Thomas James Mc Clarkson.” I put on my best old English accent. “If we can find but one ray of light in the black of this ugly night, Squire, then it is a worthy cause to celebrate.”

“Indeed, Majesty.”

And even with my shattered heart and our battered pride, we celebrate by drinking soda and eating our rainbow grilled cheese sandwiches.
