“Tell me what?”
“The house is haunted.”
“Shut up.”
“It’s true,” he said.
I kissed him more deeply and felt him grow hard against my stomach. “Then I guess some ghosts are going to get front row seats to the show.”
His laugh rumbled in his chest as his hand slid between my thighs. His fingers filled me up, and I clung to him as the world melted away.
CHAPTER 38
CHADWICK
Tinsely had spent the last several nights at my house, so when Christmas Eve rolled around, the night of the gala in the lobby of the Bamford Office Towers, we got ready together.
Or rather, we attempted to get ready together.
When she put her dress on, a silky dark red slip of a dress, I damn near lost my mind. She protested when I took her against the wall, claiming I would ruin the dress between sighs of pleasure. The dress obtained one wrinkle.
Only one.
Later, when she stood in my bathroom leaning over the counter to do her lipstick in the mirror, she protested again when I rolled her dress up and fingered her.
“I just can’t keep my hands to myself,” I purred in her ear as she clutched at the edge of the counter.
“Well, you’re going to have to,” she stammered. “You can’t keep this up when we’re at the gala. You’re going to have to show some restraint.”
“As soon as I get you all alone, you’d better believe I’m going to be back inside you,” I growled.
Her eyes rolled back. She pressed her ass into my crotch. I gave her another finger.
“Chadwick,” she breathed.
“Tinsel.”
Her lips curled in a little smile.
I stepped back, leaving her empty and breathless.
She glared at me in the mirror. “You’re a cruel tease.”
“Just making sure you had a taste of what was to come later tonight.”
She took a minute to regroup before she continued painting her lips red. I waited, fixing my cufflinks and the lapel of my suit jacket while she finished up. I’d been looking forward to the gala, but now that I had Tinsely to look forward to later when we got home, the gala felt like a tedious task. More than anything, I just wanted to stay in bed and have my girl all to myself until I’d had my fill.
I wondered if I’d ever have my fill of her.
When she finished in the bathroom, we went back out into the bedroom, where she went to the nightstand on her side of the bed and opened the little box I’d given her the night I showed up at her place. She removed the dainty hoop earrings and put them in.
“What do you think?” She turned to face me and ran her hands over the silky fabric on her hips.
“Beautiful.”
Together, we left my house and got into the limo waiting in the drive. It took us into the heart of the city, where the Bamford building was lit up with an incredible Christmas display in the lobby. We waited out in the car for a moment, enjoying the solitude behind the tinted glass windows as we watched people mill around the lobby with drinks in their hands.
I put a hand on the small of her back. “Should we go join them?”
