She stopped and swallowed. Her eyes widened as she stared at him, the flush on her cheeks extending all the way down her chest to disappear beneath her shirt.

She trailed off again, and he couldn’t help grinning. He had a feeling the doctor talked about this stuff regularly, but saying it to him was making her uncomfortable. He could only hope it was because she felt the same attraction he did.

“Fluids?”

She blinked at the word he offered, finally looking away as she straightened from stuffing her coat beneath the counter.

“Yes. More fluids. An alpha can’t knot a beta, but knotting isn’t necessary for conception.”

He watched her face take on a far away look, the flush fading away as she focused on something other than talking about an alpha’s seed in front of one.

“There are drugs that increase sperm production, but even a beta’s motility is inferior to an alpha’s. Still, if the fertility issue is more on the male side…”

She trailed off again, but he had a feeling she hadn’t been talking to him anyway.

9. Evelyn

Opening up her laptop, she considered the new angle of the problem she’d been working on for the past year.

“A heavy dose of necessary nutrients along with anastrozole would increase sperm count, but that would increase testosterone levels as well. Could that become a problem? Why does it keep coming back to testosterone?”

She frowned at the screen finally coming to life. If testosterone was the answer to beta infertility, perhaps it was the culprit with alpha aggression after all, and she wasn’t going to find anything new. But Beth had chased that theory to the end of the rope and found nothing conclusive.

Jett’s snort reminded her she wasn’t alone and she was talking to herself again, but he didn’t say anything. Aware of his presence beside her, she pinched her lips together and pulled up the forms she needed, transferring them to the tablet she’d brought for donors to enter their information.

“Is there anything I can help with?”

She met his golden gaze, the color lighter in the morning light coming through the window. It was shocking how much they seemed to change.

“I don’t think so. Maybe if it gets busy you could help them form a line outside and have them fill this out while I take the samples.”

She showed him the tablet but froze as a new thought struck her.

“Maybe I should get semen samples. The answer may not be in the blood at all.”

She looked toward the cabinets, wondering if she could find enough specimen cups, before a growl filled the room and her attention was jerked back to the alpha standing beside her.

Jett stepped forward, crowding into her space, brows drawn over suddenly dark orbs as he frowned down at her.

“Absolutely not.”

A tremor rolled through her body at his tone, but she held herself still besides the instinctive tilt of her head.

“What?”

She’d meant for it to come out firm, but the word was soft. It still carried her confusion, and she waited as Jett sucked in a deep breath and cut off his growl.

“You will not be collecting alphas’semen. You’re an omega. Blood is one thing, but that’s too far.”

Her spine went ramrod straight as her eyes narrowed.

“It’s not like I’d be getting it from them myself.”

His growl echoed around her again and her nipples pebbled under her shirt. She was already irritated, and the way her body responded to him only made it worse.

“They’d be thinking of you! Giving their seed foryou! You’d cause a riot.”
