It sucked big time.

Miles and Eli tried to help. Miles had her assisting him with some coding, while Eli took her every day to the shooting range. But she still missed Zander and worried over him. They’d just gotten word that he had tracked down where Tiger was hiding out, so she hoped this would all be over soon.

She walked into the basement, wearing her mouse pajamas. She no longer worried about the others seeing her in Little headspace. Except for Honey. They had reached a sort of truce. Honey had seemed hurt when Charlene had left town without a word, and it had severed any sort of good feelings she had towards her.

It helped that the whole town had been gossiping about what a bitch Charlene had been the other night in the restaurant.

But yeah, she felt comfortable with the others now. She held Squeaks in one hand and moved over to Miles’ couch.

“Can’t sleep?” he asked with sympathy, shoving his glasses up his nose. His hair was in disarray and he looked like he hadn’t slept in days.

“No. I’m worried.”

“Zander said things would be happening soon.”

“I know. I just wish this wasn’t all because of Carl. I don’t even care where he is or what he’s doing.”

She lay on the couch, and to her surprise, Miles put a blanket over her. She slid her thumb into her mouth. Zander had bought her a pacifier, but she didn’t like it that much.

Suddenly, Eli came storming in. “They have him! They have Tiger.”

“What?” She sat up.

Eli came to a stop and grimaced. “I didn’t see you there, Keira. Why aren’t you in bed?”

“I couldn’t sleep, so I came down to see Miles.”

“You should both be in bed.” Eli gave them both firm looks.

“He’s so cute when he fusses,” she said to Miles who grinned back at her.

“What were you saying about Tiger?” she asked.

“Oh, they have Tiger. Maybe now we’ll find out where Carl is.”

She winced. By questioning Tiger? What if he didn’t tell the truth? And what would Zander have to do to find out the answers?

Yeah, she didn’t want to know.

* * *

Zander walkedto the underground room where they were keeping Tiger. He needed to get a few answers. Linc had just left with Marisol. Linc had basically agreed to let Zander deal with Tiger and Marisol’s bitch aunt, Rosalind, who was in locked up in another room down here.

“So, Tiger, let’s chat,” he said slowly. He’d brought Ammo and Webb in for intimidation.

“Why would I want to talk to you? Who the fuck are you?”

“Doesn’t matter who I am. Tell me what I want to know and I’ll let you go. It’s as simple as that.”

Tiger eyed him.

“Hey, I have no problem with you. I just want some information about someone you know. Carl Kansas.”

Tiger frowned. “Why?”

“I need to find him. I have some questions for him.”

“Carl is like family. Why would I tell you?”
