“I’m not embarrassing myself,” Charlene countered. “You’re obviously just a fling or something. I mean, look at you. You’re not his type at all. Chubby and pale.”
Keira’s insecurities bubbled inside her.
She remembered Honey’s words about her not being good enough for Zander. But she already knew that. Didn’t mean she was going to let him go.
Nope.
“Do not speak to her that way,” Zander barked. “Keira is mine and I won’t allow anyone to speak badly of her.”
Happiness and relief surged inside her. He wasn’t going to push her aside just because Charlene was back.
“I came back here because I realized that I made a mistake, I should never have let you go, Zander,” Charlene said, fluttering her eyes.
Ick.
“All right,” Zander said blandly as he led Keira to the backseat and then lifted her in. Reaching over her, he buckled her up. He tested her belt to make sure it would work. She rolled her eyes at him, even as his caring sent happiness dancing through her.
Why had Charlene left him?
Dumbass.
“All right? So you agree? I made a mistake?”
“I don’t really care if you made a mistake or not. That’s your problem, not mine.”
“Burn,” Webb crowed as Zander shut the door and started walking around the front of the truck.
“I’ve never seen you like this,” she said to Webb. He wound down the window just as Charlene started pleading with Zander to listen to her.
“I hate that bitch.”
“Yeah, got that.”
“She nearly tore us all apart. I won’t let her do that again. She hit on Ammo.”
“W-what?”
“Yeah, he told her where to go. But after that, she got really sour and tried to convince Zander that Ammo had been coming on to her. Honey never saw what a vile bitch she is. But the rest of us did. Best day ever was when Zander got rid of her.”
“Bitch better get her hands off my man,” she warned as Charlene reached out to grasp hold of Zander’s arm. But she needn’t have worried. Zander shrugged her off and moved away, without even saying anything to her.
Then he climbed in the truck and Webb backed the truck out of the parking space.
They drove away with Charlene staring after them.
Somehow, Keira didn’t think they’d seen the last of Charlene.

She staredat the huge farmhouse as they drove past it toward the bunker.
“I can’t believe you have a decoy house.”
“It is a real house,” Zander countered.
“Yeah, but you don’t live in it. You just pretend to.” It was kind of crazy. To live in a bunker when they could live in that gorgeous house. But also to have the house set up so that it really looked like they lived in it.
Yep. Insane.
