“You did?” Keira asked.

“Ammo managed to get some photos of Carl from the security camera at the liquor store where he used and alias.” He brought up images of a couple of guys. One was Carl, one was a guy she’d never seen before.

“This guy here is Tiger Mason. His father is the President of the Devil’s Sinners. They’re an offshoot of the Devil’s Kings, who run the drugs and guns trade in Texas.”

“So you think Carl’s been hiding with the Devil’s Sinners?” Zander asked.

“Could be why he was difficult to find,” Miles said. “Ammo is going to search for someone in the gang or close to them who will talk to him.”

“I want Ammo to have back-up,” Zander stated. “Webb can head down to help him.”

“I’ll do some more research into these guys,” Miles said.

Zander nodded. “We’re getting closer. Let’s catch this bastard.”

Keira stared over at Zander.

She was feeling antsy, and she didn’t know what to do about it. Nearly a month had passed since he’d been shot. And he was doing much better. He no longer wore his sling and while his arm wasn’t in perfect condition, he was working hard to get it there.

But while he might not be having problems, she was. She was finding it hard to stop thinking about him dying. About him leaving her.

Charlene hadn’t become as much of a problem as they’d thought she might be. They’d been into town once and when she’d tried to approach Zander, he’d just ignored her.

Even Honey wasn’t interested in having much to do with her anymore. Charlene only seemed to want to meet up with her at the farmhouse. Which was impossible, since Zander refused to have Charlene on their property.

Last night, Honey had even joined them for their poker game. Which Keira had won. As usual. Sometimes she tried to throw the games so someone else could win, but it seemed they could all sense when she’d do that. And last time, Zander had popped her butt in front of everyone as he’d scolded her.

So yeah, she wouldn’t be doing that again.

Ammo had tried to get someone in the Devil’s Sinners to talk to him, but they’d all been tight-lipped. And he hadn’t gotten any more leads on Carl or Tiger. Zander had pulled them back after a week of getting nowhere. Miles had hacked into cameras around the periphery of their headquarters, but it was like Carl and Tiger had disappeared.

Getting up, she moved toward Zander who was sitting at his desk, working. The only time she didn’t worry about everything was when Zander was completely in control. She needed that right now.

She kneeled down next to him and rested her forehead on his thigh.

“Baby girl, you okay?” he asked as he placed his hand on the back of her head.

She nodded.

“Look up at me.”

She glanced up, and he studied her. Then he reached down for her. She shook her head. “Can I just . . . can I kneel here while you work?”

He frowned slightly. “That’s what you want?”

“Please.”

He slowly nodded. “All right, but I want you to get a pillow to kneel on.”

Jumping up, she grabbed a pillow from the bed and set it down on the floor before kneeling once more.

“Is there anything else you need?” he asked.

“Maybe . . . it’s a bit weird.”

“Tell me.”
