Then nothing.
JONAH
I didn’t knowhow much space I’d carved out for Willa within me until she was gone.
The hollowness is like a vacuum, sucking every bit of light and hope into its greedy maw.
I let out a shuddering sigh and squeeze her hand one last time before the world fades away and I go to whatever there is after this.
ROOK
The three ofthem slumped over one another on top of Drago’s broken body is too much to behold.
It’s too much to lose them all.
Jonah’s hand is still warm in mine, but I know it won’t be for long.
I sit in the snow, gobsmacked at the sight of such horror.
But now it’s your turn.
I told you before. You’re a part of this.
Willa started telling you her story as a way to cope. So someone else might see all the ways magic did her dirty.
And I told you of your role so you might have time to prepare.
I hope you’re ready.
Because now it’s up to you.
It’s your job to bring them back.
Don’t ask me how. I’m just a mage in love with a dead woman.
You’re here for a reason, watching our pain, feeling it for yourself in some small way.
And to help bring them back.
See, celestial magic is a funny thing. I can create rips in space and time. Objects from nothingness.
Much like belief brings about physical change and placebos work for a reason and great power lies in suggestion.
Your belief that this can’t possibly be the end of the story is what makes it so.
Chapter27
Your Ending
Hey.
Hey.
Can you hear me?
Don’t worry. I’ve got this. I’ve got you.
I keep hearing that voice, over and over. It’s all there is. There’s no other sound or sights. No other sensations at all. I focus on it. Just that sweet feminine voice that sounds familiar but also not.
