Nods ensue around the table, and we leave the dishes and everything else until the next day.

Knocking wakes me,and it’s happened enough times now that I know exactly who it is. Once I surgically remove myself from the octopus of limbs covering me, I grab my fuzzy white robe from the hook on the back of the door and silently pad out to the front door.

“Happy Solstice Eve, Emilia,” I say, opening it.

But it’s not Emilia. Rather, notonlyEmilia.

At her sides are two gorgeous women, dressed in chic silk and tweed—completely inappropriate for the weather.

They each let out a squeal when they see me, and I get tackle-hugged back inside.

“I thought you could use some moral support for the extraction ritual,” Emilia says as I’m drowning in the sickly sweet scented embrace of two vampire queens.

“You didn’t tell me you were coming!” I say when Eden and Sunny finally pull away.

“And ruin the surprise?” Eden asks, sapphire eyes sparkling as she tucks a lock of platinum hair behind her ear.

“We heard you love surprises.” Sunny smiles at me, and fuck if she isn’t the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

If I weren’t straight…

“I do love a surprise.” I grin and then I notice another woman standing just behind Emilia. “Oh, hi. I didn’t see you there. I’m Willa.”

The auburn-haired woman is at least wearing a coat and jeans. But I can tell by the brand, it’s definitely not rated high enough for the weather. She nods and turns to Emilia.

“You’re right. She’s definitely not just a wolf shifter anymore.”

Rude but fair.

She keeps staring at me, gaze roving up and down my body until I actually pull my robe tighter.

“What was your name?” I ask, trying to be polite when clearly she has no interest in doing the same.

She shakes her head, a smile forming on her full lips. “Sorry, I got caught up looking at all the craziness going on in there.” She holds out her hand. “I’m Lily. I’m here to keep you and your mates from doing a daisy-chain death march.”

I eye her, keeping a tight lid on that bitch called hope. “And just what exactly are you?” I couldn’t get a good read on her scent. She mostly smelled human, but there was definitely something “other” about her.

“Oh, I’m a demon slayer,” she says, as if that weren’t the most ridiculous thing.

“Like, Buffy?”

“No,” Eden is quick to correct. “Buffy was a vampire slayer. It’s in the title, Willa, jeez.”

I turn to her. “And in the series, vampires were people inhabited by demons.”

“Oh, yeah. You’re totally right.”

I know I am. I know my Buffy trivia.

“Well, either way, Lily isn’t anything like Buffy. She fucks her soul-collecting demons. Multiple, sometimes all at once. Buffy could never,” Emilia says, as if it’s a point of personal pride.

Chapter21

Cool Kids’ Club

After Lilyand I bond over having multiple mates, and Emilia magics away last night’s dinner mess, we all get cozy on the sofa with some coffee and croissants. Eden and Sunny bookend me while Emilia is next to Eden on the left and Lily sits right in front of me on the ottoman.

“Being a demon slayer gives me a sort of second sight. I can see the type of supernatural a person is, even if it’s not obvious or they’re hiding it with magic.”
