“Yes!” I answer as relief floods my body, realizing we’re only about two feet away from each other. “We’re trying to make it through to you all. Is everyone okay in there? How is Boris?”

“We’re all fine,” Damon laughs in relief. “Is Vamir helping you move the rocks on your side?”

“Alek and his men found us. They’re helping too.”

“Alek?” Damon does not sound happy. I hear excited voices come through from inside the cave.

“Get his men to widen this hole,” Damon tells me. “We’ll do the same over here.”

I don’t waste time yelling for help and the pirates scramble to help me move as many rocks as possible. An hour later we finally have a hole big enough to start pulling people through. The first one is Margaret.

“Oh, Ivy, it’s so good to see you, my dear,” she says as the pirates pull her out of the hole we’ve made. “I was afraid we would be trapped inside that cave forever.”

“I never would have let that happen,” I say.

As soon as she’s on her feet, she reaches out to hug me, but the memory of what I am suddenly dawns on her.

“I would hug you if I could,” she says on the verge of tears. It’s the most emotion I’ve seen Damon’s mother display since I’ve known her.

“You’re safe,” I say. “That’s all that matters. Now we just need to get everyone else out.”

Margaret nods.

“Can I escort you down, my lady?” Jack says, holding out his hand to Margaret.

She accepts his kind offer and follows him off the slippery slope of loose stones.

One by one, we pull those in the cave out. When it’s time, Simon, his men, and Boris, now in wolf form, jump out of the hole, leaving only Damon to be rescued.

Damon emerges from the hole covered in grime, but he’s still the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen. When our eyes meet, I see relief flood his expression. I cover the space between us in an instant and throw myself into his arms.

“Don’t ever do that again,” I order him, unable to hold back my tears as I hold him to me.

“Do what?” he asks amused. “Get trapped in a cave that has practically no light to see by? I assure you, that will never happen again if I can help it.”

“I never want to feel that scared again,” I whisper. “I can never lose you or I’ll end up losing myself in the process.”

“I will never purposely leave your side,” he vows. “From now on, where you go, I go.”

I pull back and look at his face. His blue and brown eyes hold a love there that I know is only for me. Without a care in the world, I press my lips to his, ready to devour him whole and claim him as mine in front of everyone who watches. I don’t care what they think of my actions because everyone in the realm should know that I love the man in my arms. I love him so much that nothing will ever be strong enough to tear us apart. We are one. We are forever.

Damon moans against my mouth, meeting my passion for him with his own for me. The world outside means nothing to either of us. All we feel, hear, taste, and smell is each other. If we were alone, I would make Damon mine in every physical way possible. I want him to claim me as his and never let me go.

Only when I need air in my lungs do I pull my lips away from his. Both of us are breathing hard but neither of us want to let the other go.

Damon leans in and whispers in my ear. “If we were alone, you would no longer be a virgin. I would take you here and now if my mother and your father weren’t watching us.”

He gently bites the bottom of my ear before pulling away.

“Oy! Lovebirds! How about we figure out where the horses went so we can get out of here,” Nahla shouts.

I turn my head to look at the pirate captain and catch her smiling at us. She isn’t annoyed with our display of passion for one another, but her reminder does pull me back into the world around me.

“The horses escaped?” I ask Damon. “I haven’t seen them out here.”

“Right before the earthquake happened, they made a mad dash out of the cave. In hindsight, we should have followed them. It’s strange you haven’t seen them though.”

“They have to be out here somewhere. We’ll find them.”
