“Not my problem.” He stood tall, trying to tower over me. In reality, he looked more like a douche with a stick up his ass. “My father said for you to get the coffee.”
My eyes narrowed. Something wasn’t right here. Mr. Sutton Sr. never sent me on coffee runs. If he wanted coffee, it was usually someone from the secretary pool or an assistant. “Okay, give me a moment to set this stuff back in the storage room.” I turned on my heel, a smirk tugging at my lips.
The bastard wanted to play games and get me fired because I refused him… again. I would play and fucking win.
Slipping into the storage room. I set my hoard of crap on the table, then headed out the other door. Quickly, so Chad wouldn’t catch onto what I was doing, I beelined it for his father’s office. Being a founder, he had an obscenely large corner office.
At his door, I smiled at Corrinne, took a deep breath, and knocked. At the muted come in; I opened the door and my stomach dropped. I was going to get my ass fired for this. But I was not some coffee fetching bitch for Creepy McSleezy.
“I’m sorry, sir. Mr. Sutton said you required a coffee run, but he didn’t give me anyone’s order.” I smiled sweetly; my hands clasped in front of me. The urge to throat punch someone made my fingers tingle, or maybe it was how hard I clenched them.
Mr. Sutton turned from his conversation with a paralegal. “Ms. Redgrave?”
“Mr. Sutton, your son, asked me to leave the office and get coffee for everyone, but he failed to give me the coffee orders.” I repeated plastering on a fake smile.
Sutton leaned forward and pushed a button on his desk phone. “Corrinne, please track down my son.” He leaned back as the door opened and guess who it was. The damn guy must have been by Corrinne’s desk.
“Father?” The bastard sauntered in.
“Did you ask Ms. Redgrave to get us coffee?”
McSleezy took in the various associates and Bear sitting around the conference table, then gave me side eyes before turning his attention back to his father. “Why would I ask her to leave the office? It’s not her job.”
Sutton glanced from his son to me, a frown on his face. “Ms. Redgrave, what are you trying to do here?”
“Sir, I’m not trying to do anything. Your son asked me to do a coffee run. I am only here to get your orders. Even though it is not my job, I’ll do as needed, as long as my desk is covered.” I locked my knees as my extremities became heavy. A bead of sweat ran down my back. “If you don’t need me to do a coffee run, then I need to get back to my desk.”
“Maybe Addy was confused.” Chad said, his voice soft, a condescending look on his face that I wanted to rip off with my bare hands. “She wasn’t at her desk a few moments ago, so maybe she overheard a conversation I was having.”
“Mr. Sutton, sir, I was grabbing supplies for my desk and the lobby. When I came out, your son was there, and demanded that I get coffee for everyone. I overheard nothing.” The little shit was definitely going to get me fired.
While that wouldn’t be the end of the world at this point, because you know unemployment. I didn’t want to beg my aunt for work while I looked for a new job.
“So, by her own admission she wasn’t at her desk.” Tiny dick boy smiled like he had me cornered, again. “Father, obviously, this job is too much for her.”
“Chadwick, I expect your staff to do their jobs.” Sutton turned to me. His beady black eyes scanned me from head to toe as the feeling of being undressed by the man gave me the heebie-jeebies. “This is not the place to deal with internal issues.”
“Don’t worry, Father. Mr. Alexander there is seeing Ms. Redgrave.” Chad sneered, his chin jutting in Bear’s direction at the table.
“Son.” Sutton snapped, his face a deep red color as he stood from his desk. “Mr. Alexander has brought a few issues to our attention. I need for you to get those files I asked for.”
“Mr. Sutton, there’s no need to get the files now. You can send them to my new law firm by the end of the week.” Bear stood, straightening his button-down shirt. “After the display when I walked in, and how I found my gran’s house, I’m no longer interested in working with this firm.”
“Mr. Alexander, as I said, it’s a grievous error the condition of your grandmother’s house.” Old man Sutton said.
“My grandmother would have been appalled at how you’ve handled the trust we set up before I shipped out. Mr. Ledwin would never have let this happen. Too bad he retired.” Bear walked to my side, his arm going around my shoulder. “Oh, and Mr. Sutton, you might want to discuss office behavior and sexual harassment with your son before he lands this firm in a lawsuit.” Bear squeezed my side.
Lowering his voice, he whispered in my ear. “If that fucker is as bad as I think. Just quit. I’m sure your aunt can help you get a job. Hell, I’d even talk to my boss about you.”
“I can assure you, Mr. Alexander, that we take harassment in any form seriously.” Sutton’s face turned eggplant purple. I swear he looked moments from a stroke.
“Come on, I need to get going. I have a shit ton to do before I head back to Kissing Springs.” Bear tugged me toward the door.
Stiffly, I moved but stopped before going through it. I’d lost my mind. That’s the only explanation for the words that tumbled from my mouth. Spinning on my heal, I faced my coworkers. “Mr. Sutton, I quit. Your son has been harassing most of the female staff, and after he cornered me this morning to demand I sleep with him, I will have to think hard about finding a lawyer of my own.” With that, I walked out, a lightness to my step. I might have blown my life to bits, but it felt awesome.
Corrinne grinned at me from behind her desk. She must have heard every word from the moment I walked into the office. “Good for you, dear. Little prick needs to be brought to task.” She nodded, then focused back on her computer, typing away at her keyboard.
By the time I made it to the lobby where Bear waited, my heart pounded, and my ears buzzed. I snagged my purse and laptop bag from below my desk and shoved the few items I kept inside. Not bothering to shut down programs or turn off my computer, I slid it and the wireless mouse into the protective section of my dark brown leather bag.
