He held up a piece of pink fabric covered in poppies, ruffles, and lace. She cocked her head, trying to decide what it was, but the red ribbons leading from the center of the garment confused her. “I’m more Brooks Brothers and less…um… What is that?”
“I’m not the slightest bit surprised you don’t recognize an apron.”
“Are you sure that’s an apron? It looks like a fabric store exploded.”
His lips curved into the wicked smile she loved to see on him, and a pulse of desire crept into her core. “I am most definitely sure it’s an apron. I’m also absolutely convinced you’ll look gorgeous wearing nothing else. Stand up and finish getting undressed.”
The whole premise was silly, but…
They needed to reconnect and rediscover what they meant to each other. Of all the things she’d missed over the last several weeks, submitting to him was at the top of the list—even more than decent food and sleep. She rose to her feet and unbuttoned her blouse.
He helped her take it off, then hung it in the closet along with her trousers. “Panties and bra too.”
Slowly, teasingly, she unfastened the front closure of her bra and let it slide down her arms, then pushed her panties down until they hit the floor.
Unfortunately, he seemed unmoved and simply held out a hand for her undergarments. After hanging them with her clothes, he reached for the apron and held it up, then slipped a ruffled loop of fabric over her head. He turned her until her back was to him, then tied the ribbons at the base of her spine.
She glanced at herself in the mirror over the dresser and winced, then turned away. She’d never seen so much lace in one place in her life. “Do you really expect me to wear this all weekend?”
“I do.” He cupped the back of her neck and forced her to look at herself again. “This is part of your punishment, but I’m going to let you keep your heels.”
“Why my heels and nothing else? And how is this a punishment?”
“I like watching your ass when you wear heels. It’s a punishment because this is something you’d never wear unless I order you to. You need to be out of the suits and into something that reminds you of your submission.” He stroked her cheek, then kissed her forehead. “And we both need to be reminded that I’m your dominant.”
Wishing she could live out the fantasy he was trying to create, she smiled and kissed his cheek. “I promise, once we’re past the reopening, we’ll take a weekend for this, but it just isn’t a good time. I’ll try to take better care of myself though.”
“Oh, Kendra.” He shook his head and tsked. “This isn’t up for discussion.”
“But—”
“I’ve already talked to Ryan, Jake, Sean, and Sierra. They’ll be splitting our responsibilities until Monday. Jake and Olivia even put a menu together, and our meals will be delivered.”
“We can’t just ignore our jobs! What if something happens?”
To her surprise, he pulled out one of her legal pads and added something to a long list she couldn’t quite read. “Then it does. We’ll fix it on Monday.”
“What are you writing?”
“I know how much you love lists. This is all the times you’ve overstepped your authority, every missed meal—Jake helped with that, and every night you’ve gone without sleeping for the last thirty days.” He set the pad aside and gazed at her. “Trust me. I know exactly when my woman wasn’t in bed where she belonged. I’m adding an entry for arguing with your dominant.”
“Hey!”
“Is that another argument?”
She pressed her lips together and shook her head. “What’s going to happen?”
He grinned at her, then pulled her to the bed and sat next to her. “You’ll love this part. I’ve assigned a point value to each item on the list, see? Overstepping your authority gets five spanks. A missed meal is ten, and a missed night’s sleep is twenty.”
She frowned and studied the list. One glance at the total written at the bottom made her ass cheeks clench. “I don’t understand why missing sleep is worth more spanks than overstepping my authority. That seems like a bigger transgression to me.”
Mark took her hand and kissed her fingertips. “Having a contractor start work we hadn’t discussed first isn’t going to risk your health, baby. That’s why.”
Chapter Three
Mark
“There are almost a thousand, Mark.” Kendra stood and tossed the list to the bed, then gazed at it like it was a rattlesnake. “I… Wow. You dated them?”
