“Willow Sage Appleton, I love you with every square inch of me. I want you to remember that.”

“You’re angry. I hurt you. Does it help if I said I would call you when we were done with lunch?”

“Not really. Sage, baby, I’m your man, lover, partner, and sometimes your daddy for the rest of our lives. And if God wills, we will raise a family together. So decide now what you want.”

“No need to think about it. I want all of that, and I love you, too. I didn’t want you to think you were right about not being able to take care of myself.”

“And that is why you are getting a spanking. Because you put pride over safety.”

“Sorry, daddy.”

“I’m sorry too because it isn’t your daddy who will administer this lesson. It’s your very protective man.”

On the way home, Jacob called Stryker to get the guys together because they were moving Sage into his cabin. Then he called the sheriff’s department and gave them his new address. Finally, he explained to Sage that the ranch was on lockdown the moment she entered the gates.

“I don’t know what he’s going to do, so we have to go on alert until they pick his sorry ass up and charge him with breaking the protection order.” Sage just nodded. “No pushback?”

“No, Avery told me that was what would happen.”

“Good. I have things to put in place for the rest of the day, including getting your things from your house. I’ll video chat with you while I’m there to ensure I get everything you need. Do you have an alarm system? Cameras?”

“Yes. I’ll give you the code. I updated it after I kicked Flynn out.”

By the end of the day, Sage had had just about enough of Red Eagle men directing her. The girls acted as if it was nothing.

“We’ve gone through this before. The guys tend to get a little itchy when their women are in danger. Even a hint will put them on high alert, so you just need to relax. Things will calm down when they catch and jail Flynn.”

After a late dinner, everyone was tired but satisfied that everything they needed to finish was complete. Without more than a wave goodbye, Jacob reached for Sage and pulled her close. He kissed her temple, then helped her with her winter coat. Jacob frowned over Sage’s standard medium-weight one and headed out the front door.

When they entered the cabin away from the cold, the interior was cool. Jacob turned up the central heating. “I have a nice fireplace, but it’s too late for that. We have enough time to shower before we take care of business and then cuddle in bed.”

“I don’t think I agree to discipline. I made a mistake, but that’s all.”

“Well, we might have a problem there. You might change your mind after we talk about this, but I’ll need consent this time.”

“And I don’t give it. Do you mind if I take a shower first? I’m exhausted.”

“No, go right ahead.”

It wasn’t long before Sage was in bed, and Jacob was getting in the shower. As she lay in Jacob’s bed, smelling his scent all around her, thinking of how he cared for her, the tears slid down her face. The more she thought of how much he loved her, and she loved him, how he put his life and his family’s life on hold to protect her, then the faster they came.

She’d known it, but like a child, she played with fire and screamed at the flames when she got burned. That made her cry more. But she didn’t know what to do with the feelings. She wanted this man more than her next breath, and discipline was part of him.

Sage didn’t hear Jacob, but she felt him when he slid under the covers with her.

“Hey,” he breathed as he drew her into his arms, “what’s wrong?”

“I’ve messed things up and don’t know how to fix them.”

He kissed her temple. “You haven’t messed anything up. Things are just a little unsettled. You know what needs to happen here to put things back in place, but you don’t want to submit.”

“Women aren’t supposed to submit. We’re supposed to be strong.”

He nodded. “I get that, but submission isn’t a dirty word in our relationship. I submit to you when you want something badly, and I don’t think it’s necessary, but it won’t hurt you. I make a judgment call and then give in. That is submitting to your will.”

“And you want me to submit to your will where discipline is concerned?”

“Sure, but not blindly. I want you to consider it and submit to me because it works for us. You aren’t giving up your personhood, just surrendering to our lifestyle. If at any time you don’t want it and you have a good reason, I’ll respect it. Just as I hope you will respect me when I have a better reason to administer some discipline. You threatened your safety, Chris’ safety, and our relationship. That can’t go unaddressed.”
