“That doesn’t give him the right to touch my future wife the way he was touching her.” He tried to sidestep me and get to Axel but I pressed my hands on his chest.

Axel scoffed. “I also happen to bat for the other team you asswipe. There’s more of a chance of me hitting on you than Bri. Not that I would want to after this.”

I watched Gabriel’s anger melt away in seconds as the truth finally came out.

“You’re…” his voice trailed off. His hazel eyes looked between me and Axel like he couldn’t quite believe it.

“Gay? Yep.” Axel popped the ‘p’ at the end. “Now don’t you feel stupid? A little idiotic? Ashamed? All of the above?”

“Okay,” Ava drawled. “And that is our cue to leave. Bri, I will call you babes. Axel let’s go.”

Axel rolled his eyes and walked toward us. He stopped when he was beside me and dropped a kiss on my cheek.

“Call if you need anything.” He then turned his glare to Gabriel. “Hurt her and I will feed you your own ball sacks.”

He then brushed past us and headed towards the elevator with his sister.

When they were gone I stepped away from Gabriel to give myself some breathing room. Whenever I was too close to him I found myself getting confused and flustered.

Gabriel turned on his heels and started walking away from me, reverting back to his ignoring ways, but I was done playing this game with him.

“So we aren’t going to talk about what just happened?” I called after him.

He stopped and looked over his shoulder at me. “Nothing happened.”

I scoffed. “You came in here like the freaking Hulk trying to beat up my friend.”

He remained silent.

“I just don’t get you, Gabriel. You have said all of two sentences to me for the past four days and now you come home like a raging bull, for what reason? Did I offend you in some way?”

“You invited someone over without informing me.”

“I sent you a message letting you know that I was having friends over for a movie night. You didn’t respond.”

He turned around fully. “As far as I know you have two friends, Ava and Alana, you never mentioned him.”

“Do I need to report every tiny detail to you? You aren’t my keeper, Gabriel.”

“But I am your fiancé.” His voice grew louder with each word. “I am your fucking fiancé.”

“No, you aren’t. This,” I raised my left hand with the ring on full display, “is all pretend. We aren’t engaged.”

“But this is still my home and you disrespected me in it!” He declared as he took a step closer.

His hazel eyes raged with an intensity I had only ever seen once before. I was taken aback by the heat swimming behind them.

“You sat there and let him hold you and kiss your head like he owned you.”

I threw my hands up in exasperation. “This jealous boyfriend act needs to stop.”

His features hardened further and I could not only see the heat but now I could feel it. “I’m not jealous.”

“Then why did you get so worked up about Axel? Why did you want to charge at him like a crazy person?” I held his gaze. “Why did you react that way, Gabriel?”

He remained silent. His eyes stared into mine, stealing the very breath from my lungs. I could see the conflict swimming in them. The uncertainty.

We were now only a foot away from each other. The tension between us was palpable. My gaze flicked to his lips and then back to his eyes.
