He fucks me again and again, and I’m coming hard. “Cannon!”
“Give it to me, babygirl. Give me everything you’ve got.” He gives my ass a smack that leaves my skin burning as I shudder through the climax.
He reaches his own peak of pleasure, calling out my name as he comes. “Kylie. Kylie.”
Afterward, cleaning me with a warm rag, he leaves my pants and panties down and sits on the couch, pulling my naked ass down onto his lap, unbothered by the damp spot I’m leaving on his thighs. He holds me to his chest, crooning, “There’s my good girl” in my ear as he strokes my long hair, his palm making circles along my lower back when he reaches my waist.
I snuggle into him, totally content and at peace.
“Now, I have something to tell you.” He strokes his fingers over the bare skin of my back. “I wanted to be sure you heard it from me.” It feels good, his light touch. But something in his voice makes spidery legs crawl across my skin.
Whatever he wants to tell me, it’s not good.

Kylie
I sit dumbfounded. It can’t be. Does this change everything between us?
Kat, the blonde woman with the bad hair extensions, is Catherine, the woman who broke his heart.
That night, my very first evening at Fire when I sat at the long table, dining with him, there was a strange blonde woman who was doing everything possible to get his attention. I remember joking with him that theirs wasn’t a love connection.
But it was, wasn’t it?
It was his Catherine.
He stares at me, concern etched in his features as he lets the news sink in.
His precious Catherine has come back…
Of course she acted strange, showing up out of the blue all these years later. I mean, personally, I wouldn’t have pretended to be someone else to get into his bed, I would have been honest about who I was, but I’ve never been in her position before. Maybe she felt she didn’t have a choice.
“Why do you think she lied and hid who she really was? Why wouldn’t she just tell you straight up?” I ask.
“She saw how much I’d changed, joining the Bachmans, owning the club. She was intimidated, knowing I wasn’t the same Cannon she left ten years ago. She wasn’t sure I would want her anymore. And,” he reaches out, tucking a lock of hair behind my ear, “she was one hundred percent right. Even before I found out who she was, something about her turned me off, made my skin crawl.”
“Fair enough. But tell me,” I say, needing more confirmation, not wanting this to be true. I stand up from his lap, tugging up my panties and jeans, zipping and buttoning them up over my still stinging behind. “How did you not know it was her?”
“Her hair was much lighter and longer. She’s made some changes to her body, enhancements, she calls them,” he says. “Between that and the fact that it’s been a full decade since I saw her, I had no idea.”
I think of the woman at the table. She had a perfect nose, impossibly high cheekbones, and what looked like the outline of amazing breasts in her low-cut blouse. Looking back, it’s quite possible she had some cosmetic surgery done which would make it harder for him to recognize her.
Still… the two of them had been intimate back in the day. I think of Cannon and our time together. I wouldn’t forget how it feels to be with him, not in a million years.
“There had to be some familiarity between you,” I say, wanting to know more and wanting to never talk about her again, all at the same time.
“Maybe. But it doesn’t matter. Her coming back was a gift. It made me realize that the person, the thing I thought I was wanting, was all wrong for me.” He reaches out for me, grabbing my hand in his. He tugs me back to his lap. “Come here.”
“Or maybe you just need to give it time,” I say, crossing my legs. “You two have been apart for a very long time.”
“Kylie, I need you to listen to me.” He grabs my chin in his fingers and stares at me long and hard. I have to look away, unable to take the heat of his gaze in this moment. He won’t allow it. “Look at me.”
I force myself to meet his eyes.
“She means nothing to me, Kylie. I swear it to you. I just wanted you to hear this from me.”
I nod. “Of course, of course.”
