“How the hell did I end up with the horniest packmate in the city–no, on earth?”
“Just luck, I guess,” he said, and brushed his foot against mine under the table.
I knew how I had ended up with him, if I were being honest: I’d fallen for his scent before I’d known who he was.
Whathe was:
A rare male omega.
Since then, I’d learned he was strong, and sexy, and smart.
A serious pain in the ass.
And also, completely insatiable.
Hence, our visit to Ardor. I didn’t necessarilywantto add another alpha to our pack–I had never really been interested in pack life to begin with, Adrian and Beau had just sort of happened–but the two of us were barely enough to keep Beau satisfied, so we occasionally called in… reinforcements. I had assumed, half-seriously, that that was how male omegas got so rare in the first place: there just wasn’t enough cock in the world to satisfy them. I had joked about it once with Beau, though, and he’d quietly pointed out the corollary that I hadn’t seen: that those omegas haddied. It wasn’t a joking matter, being an omega, whether male or female.
I didn’t joke about his designation any more.
“And there he is now,” he sighed from next to me. “Adrian looks handsome tonight, doesn’t he?”
“Sure,” I said. “Or it’s just your heat talking.”
“Such an alpha,” he teased, just as Adrian set down two drinks on the table. One was practically gone, and the ice was half melted. I frowned again. I hated this club. “Can’t even admit another alpha is hot.”
“Who’s hot?” Adrian asked, his head swiveling. “Did you find an alpha you like?”
“I did,” Beau purred. “You.”
“You know just what to say, don’t you?” Adrian purred right back.
If they kept this up my eyeballs would be sore from rolling. I took a sip of my drink and grimaced. “You disappear for half an hour and bring me back a half-flat sparkling water with, what, lime and… salt?”
“It’s naturally lightly salinated,” Adrian said, not looking at me, his eyes still fixed on Beau. “But hey–that’s not the important part.”
“Yeah, the important part is that the ice is all melted,” I persisted. I knew I wouldn’t win this fight, but it didn’t keep me from trying. I had pride. I waspack alpha, after all. Whatever that meant.
“What,” Beau scoffed. “Yourwaterwatered-down?”
“Yes,” I said, just as Adrian grinned.
“Yes,” he said, his eyes lit with excitement. Hewashandsome. I could admit it, whatever Beau might think. “Nowthatisexactlythe important part. There’s someone you have to meet.”
“You found me an alpha?” Beau asked, sitting up straighter.
“Well…” Adrian hedged.
“Donottell me you found another omega,” I said. “No. No, I can’t handle another.”
“Not an omega, no,” Adrian said. “A beta.”
My eyebrows rose, but he held up a hand. He wasn’t done.
“A woman,” he finished.
Beau’s eyebrows rose to match mine.
“A woman,” he said. “A beta woman?”
