"Dash. It's Dash now, sweetheart."

"Dash. Let's take this slow. I'm still trying to process."

He nods and takes a step back. "Have you eaten?"

"No."

He takes my hand and we head to the house.

"Sit. Let me cook for you." He pulls out a chair at the dining room table.

"But that's my job," I protest.

"And today it's mine. The ranch hands took sandwiches with them for lunch, so we won't be bothered," he says as he puts together a BLT from what I assume is bacon he cooked up this morning.

He sets a plate down in front of me and takes the chair beside me.

The conversation that follows is wonderful. We touch on what we’ve done since we saw each other. He tells me about bootcamp, his time in the military, and the places he’s been. We talk about my school, my job in Dallas, and how much I hated it.

We talk until it's time for me to start dinner. We talk all through dinner and long into the night.

"Let me walk you to your door," he says.

"It's right there. I'll be fine," I tell him.

"If you think I haven't made sure you got to your door okay each night, you don't know me. Now, let me walk you."

At the top of the stairs, he leans in and gives me a soft kiss. "Goodnight, sweetheart," he says as I step into my living room.

I think it's safe to say I never got over this man.

Chapter 12

Sky

I get back to my room and reflect on what a great day it's been. Even with the discovery of Dash being Corey, I think I was just relieved that he was home safe.

I decide to call Sarah, possibly because I know she will come here and kill me herself if I don't tell her something like this.

"Hey, girl. Mac and I were just talking about dates for the lake."

"After what I have to tell you, you're probably going to want to do it sooner rather than later."

"Do I need to sit down? I feel like this is something I'm going to need to sit down for," she says, and I can hear some shuffling in the background.

"I would definitely sit down."

"Okay putting put Mac on the phone, too?"

"Yeah, you'll just tell him anyway," I sigh.

She giggles because it's the truth. "Okay, spill it."

"Dash is Corey."

There’s not a word from the other end of the line. She's quiet for so long, I pull the phone away from my ear to check it’s still connected.

"Corey is the ex-boyfriend, right?" Mac asks.
