She opened her mouth to tell him off, but Olivia’s whimper distracted her. On the screen, her friend’s eyes were squeezed shut, and it was obvious she was bracing herself for what came next.

“How long are you two going to be at the house, Bry?” James asked from off-screen.

“Seven days for me.”

When he glanced over at her, Shannon sighed. “Ten.”

“One for each day?” James asked.

“For each of us. Might as well round it up to twenty for good measure.”

Shannon smacked his shoulder and glared at him. “Bryant! Don’t be mean!”

“Hit me again, little girl, and I’ll give you double what she’s getting with the bath brush James has hidden in the linen closet.”

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“Try me.”

Because there was a part of her that was all too willing to put his threat to the test, she clamped her mouth shut and glared at the screen.

A short pause later, James tapped the paddle lightly against his wife’s bottom. “Open your eyes, Olivia.”

The woman on the screen obeyed, a sheen of tears already coating the deep brown of her eyes.

“Twenty with the paddle, then you will offer Shannon and Bryant asincereapology. If your apology is not up to my standards, we will repeat the count. Understood?”

“Yes, Daddy.” To Shannon’s ears, she already sounded plenty sorry, but that obviously didn’t matter to the man wielding the paddle.

A moment later, the tell-tale sound of wood meeting bare skin came through the speaker, accompanied by Olivia’s gasp. The next four swats followed quickly, barely giving Olivia a chance to catch her breath. When James paused to rub her back, Olivia whimpered in obvious pain.

“You will not interfere with our friends’ personal lives, Olivia Jane.”

The short lecture was followed by another five sets of swats. Tears slipped from the corners of Olivia’s eyes and over her bright red cheeks.

“You will not keep secrets and tell lies to manipulate people.”

Another set of five, turning Olivia’s soft whimpers into hitching sobs. Despite the guilt twisting her stomach into knots, Shannon squirmed on the bed as she watched the scene play out. As bad as she felt for Liv, there was no denying the scene was fuckinghot.

“And most of all, you will not disobey direct orders from your Daddy.”

The final count of five tore a shriek from Olivia before she collapsed on the desk, sobbing. To her credit, she managed to keep her grip on the phone, giving Shannon and Bryant a front-row seat to her misery.

Off-screen, James murmured soft words of encouragement until his wife’s sobs quieted to sniffles. “Time to apologize, little one.”

Lifting her tear-soaked eyes to the camera, Olivia sniffled pitifully. “I’m sorry I lied and set you up. I shouldn’t have interfered.”

The camera jostled, and James’s face filled the screen. “Sincere enough for you?”

“Yes,” Bryant bit out, his voice oddly strained. “Let me talk to Olivia.”

The camera flipped, and they were once again looking down at a very repentant, sniffling Liv. “Y-yes, s-sir?”

“You’re lucky you’re not here, little girl. I wouldn’t have gone as easy on you as your Daddy did.”

“I know.” Her breath hitched on another sob and more tears welled in her eyes. “I’m really sorry! I was only trying to help.”

Bryant’s expression immediately softened, and the barest hint of a smile played on his lips. “I know, sweetheart. I love you and I forgive you. And I’m sure Shannon forgives you, too.”
