“Oh, baby.” Deciding it was worth the risk of a knee in his crotch, he lowered his head, brushing his lips across hers. “I never gave up on you, or on us. I wanted to give you some space while I figured some shit out. But I never, ever stopped loving you or wanting you, and I’m sorry you ever felt that way.”
“Really?”
“Princess, not a single minute of a single day has passed since you kicked me out of your house when I haven’t wanted you. When I haven’t ached to hold you. More than once I drove by your house, seriously considering simply breaking down your door and spanking some sense into your stubborn ass.”
When she didn’t respond, he shifted tactics. Hooking an arm behind her knees, he scooped her up into his arms and strode for the bedroom.
“What are you doing?”
“Showing you how much I’ve missed you.”
CHAPTER28
Inever gave up on you, or on us.
Bryant’s declaration played over and over in her mind like a broken record as he lowered her onto the bed. There was so much more she needed to know, so many questions she wanted answered, but everything was so jumbled in her brain she couldn’t form a sentence.
And then his hands were on her, seemingly everywhere at once, and the noise in her mind faded to nothing but need and want.
“My beautiful, stubborn princess,” he said, pressing his lips to the side of her neck. “God, I’ve missed you.”
I’ve missed you, too. But the words stuck in her throat, so she simply arched up into his touch, hoping he’d understand what she couldn’t bring herself to say.
He took his time with her, slowly peeling the dress from her body while he filled the air with words of love and praise and need. By the time he ran his tongue from the bottom of her soaked pussy to her clit, she was trembling with the want of him.
Burying her fingers in his hair, she held on for dear life as he worked her into a frenzy with that wicked tongue. As much as she’d missed him, she’d really fucking missedthis.
Need coiled inside her, tighter and tighter with each flick of his tongue. Until she was mindless with it and begging for release.
“Bryant, please, please!”
It wasn’t until he slipped his hands under her and squeezed her burning cheeks that she got what she craved. The flash of pain sent her over the edge, the orgasm ripping through her so that she came screaming his name, bucking wildly under him. All the while he held on tight, not giving up his relentless assault until he’d lapped up every last bit of her pleasure.
When she was finally boneless beneath him, he stripped and knelt between her thighs. The sensation of him filling her scraped those already sensitive nerve endings raw and she nearly sobbed from the overwhelming pleasure of it.
“I love you, Shannon.” Moving inside her, working them both toward that peak once more, he dipped his head and captured her lips in a kiss so tender her heart threatened to shatter all over again.
But still, she couldn’t give him the words. Instead, she focused on loving him with her body, moving under him, hips lifting to meet him as he drove into her. Now the room filled with just the sound of their bodies joining together, soft gasps and sighs, her needy whimpers as they took each other up and over the edge one final time.
When he collapsed beside her, she curled into him, craving the heavy weight of his arms around her even more than she’d needed to feel him inside her. Promising herself they’d talk more in the morning, she let her eyes close as sleep swept her away.

The nightmare camefor her again. The same as always, and yet she was somehow still defenseless against the attack. But this time, when that first kick connected with her ribs, she heard another voice, calling for her, drawing her back to the land of the living.
“Shannon. Wake up, baby. It’s just a bad dream.”
Daddy. She curled into him, soaking up his warmth and comfort until her teeth finally stopped chattering and her heartbeat slowed to its normal rhythm again.
“Good girl,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “Go back to sleep, princess. I’m right here. Nobody will ever hurt you again, I promise.”
Safe in his arms, she slept again, deep and dreamless.

When she finally woke thenext morning, the sun was high enough to fill the bedroom with light, and Bryant was nowhere to be found. Rolling out of bed, she searched his drawers and pulled out an old, soft t-shirt to wear.
After a quick trip to the bathroom, she went looking for him. Which didn’t take long, since his townhouse wasn’t nearly as big as the beach house. She found him in the second bedroom he’d converted to an office, hunched over his laptop, a scowl marring his handsome face.
