Being one of the lead hunters, she was given a larger suite on the first floor of the women’s dorm. It had a full kitchen, bathroom, living/dining room, and a bedroom. She couldn’t complain.

Accommodations had never really been important to her. When she took the job to teach and go on missions, her biggest concern was whether they would be able to find worthy recruits. Judging by their first training sessions, six of the eight women they assigned to her were able to be trained. She was still unsure of one. The last one she recommended for dispatch duty to her commanding officer, Xavier West.

West was a no-nonsense, grumpy bastard, but he was smart and trusted her judgment. He could be a prick as long as he didn’t get in her way or think he could hit on her. She didn’t do the cocky, inflated-ego assholes. Messer stuck with men she could control, so she could screw and shoo. No hanger-on men for her. No relationships or strings. She wanted to get off and get out.

After being discharged from the military and being fired from her job at her hometown police department, she needed this job. Hopefully, it was one she could stand to do.

She’d find out at her afternoon meeting. Supposedly, the higher ups at the Black Forest Academy were going to fill them in on what exactly they were facing and how to defeat them.

All Stella knew for sure was she couldn’t see how someone could turn into a wolf or a tiger andnotbe a monster.

Pixie

Once all the Ol’ Ladies had arrived at TC’s diner, Pixie had them take seats around the two tables she had pushed together in the back. When she mentioned to Kitty that she wanted the space because they needed to have church, the woman grinned, raised an eyebrow, and told her to have at it. As a member of the Tiger’s Claw MC, Kitty knew what church meant.

She was glad Pike hadn’t seen her push the tables together. Since she was preggo, he would have flipped his lid. The man gave a whole new meaning to being overprotective.

The women took their seats. Pixie was surprised not to see any of the kids in attendance, but it would make all of it go a lot smoother. She sat at the head of the table, with Sugar to her right and Gorgeous to her left. Next to Gorgeous was Darlin’ and Peanut. To Sugar’s right was Harlow, then Kisy.

There was a seat at the other end of the table that would be occupied for Mary, but Rock still hadn’t settled everything after his ex-wife’s death and hadn’t fully embraced Mary as his Ol’ Lady. He would get there. It was just going to take time.

“What’s this about, Pix?” Wearing her Tiger’s Claw cut with the newly attachedProperty of Dragon - Howlers MC Enforcerpatch on the bottom right corner, Kisy rested her elbows on the table and looked over at Pixie.

“Yeah, Pix,” Gorgeous said with a smile, “the text sounded like you had juicy stuff to tell us.” She jogged her eyebrows, making Sugar giggle.

Pixie looked around to make sure none of the Howlers were in the diner. If they heard her plans, they would try to shut them down. They would tell her to mind her own business, and maybe she should, but what was wrong with a little fun?

When she saw the coast was clear, she faced the women again and told them of her plan. “We need to go on a stakeout.”

“Ooooo,” Darlin’ crossed her arms over her chest and leaned closer, her auburn messy bun bobbing on top of her head with her movements. “What are we staking out? Or who? Whom? I don’t remember which one it is.”

Butterfly snorted a laugh. “It’s ‘who’.”

“Thanks.” Darlin’ smiled at Butterfly, then she returned her attention to Pixie.

“The library.” When they all just stared at her, she huffed out a breath. “None of you have wondered why Rebel brought us there? Or why he keeps making frequent trips to the library, by the library, near the library?”

“Because he likes to read,” Gorgeous mumbled, but Pixie could see her gears turning.

“Yes, we all know he likes to read, but he practically has a library in his room here and has a million books piled up at his place.”

“So frequent trips would be excessive,” Gorgeous surmised as her eyes widened. “Ruby?”

“I asked her where the name Ruby came from, expecting her to say it was a grandmother or aunt’s name.” Pixie grinned. “She said, ‘Rebel.’ That’s it! Just… Rebel.”

“Oh, my goodness,” Sugar breathed.

Peanut laughed. “It’s happening again!”

“Okay. So, Rebel might have found his mate,” Butterfly said. “Why would this make us stakeout the library?”

Pixie opened her mouth to explain, but Kisy beat her to the punch. “To get proof. Rebel is so damn private. If another woman is joining our crew, we need to know.”

“What are my chickens scheming about, now?” Mama Hen strolled over to their table. Her hair was teal and cut short to her head. The woman pulled off the color better than any woman Pixie had ever seen.

“Pixie is organizing a stakeout of the library. We think Rebel is falling for the librarian,” Kisy told her biological aunt.

Kisy called her Auntie Hen, but the rest of them called her Mama Hen. She claimed every person in the neighborhood as family, except for the snooty ones. She didn’t do snooty, and she refused to surround herself with it.
