“That’s not the point.” Pike chuckled and kissed her temple. “Pixie, it won’t hurt you to apologize.”

“Whatever.”

The front door swung open, and Ruby waved them in with a smile. “Hi. Rebel isn’t home yet. He should be here soon.”

“That’s fine,” Pike said and gave Pixie a bit of a shove to get her moving into the house. “We’re here to talk to you first, anyway.”

“Me?” Ruby’s eyes widened, and she led them through Rebel’s living room to his kitchen. Once there, she approached the coffee pot and began making fresh.

Pixie slid onto one of the stools at the island, and Pike did the same on the stool next to her. “Yes.” She let out a sigh. “If we offended you in any way by our spying, I am sorry. It was my idea. We shouldn’t have invaded your privacy.”

When she finished, Ruby whipped around and looked at her with a smile on her face. “Offended? Pixie, I thought it was hilarious and adorable. You were only trying to find out what was going on with him, and I think you did it with the best of intentions and hope for his happiness. I’m not offended at all.”

“Was Rebel?” Pixie winced as she thought about Rebel being angry with them. She liked Rebel, and her mate was close to him. It was important to Pixie that Rebel wasn’t upset with her.

Pike snorted a laugh. “Annoyed? Yes. Offended? Not even a little bit.”

Ruby nodded. “That’s what he said.” Then, she realized what she said, and her cheeks reddened. “I mean… That’s what Rebel said… uh… told me.” She huffed out a breath. “I mean… Rebel told me that he was annoyed, but he wasn’t angry or upset.”

When Ruby finished speaking, Pixie looked over at Pike to find that his face was red too, but because he was trying so hard to keep from laughing. She kicked his shin under the ledge of the island but looked back to Ruby. “I’m glad. We really do only want the best for him. And we were so excited that he found someone he cares about.”

“So, we’re good.” Ruby smiled. “Would you like some coffee? Pop? I haven’t found any tea, but I’ve only been here a couple times.”

“I’ll have water, if you don’t mind,” Pixie replied.

Pike pulled his phone from his pocket and was reading the screen as he mumbled, “I’m good, Ruby. Looks like I need to go help Bullet keep Dragon from killing Trip and Ranger. Something about a sticker on his bike that saysI’m a good boy.“ He chuckled as he stood. He was still chuckling as he kissed Pixie’s temple and took her keys from the spot on the island where she set them.

“That Ranger is a trickster, isn’t he?”

“Trip isn’t any better.” Pixie laughed and shook her head. “Those two drive Dragon up a wall regularly.”

Ruby walked over to the refrigerator and grabbed a bottle of water from inside. She handed it to Pixie and leaned down to rest her elbows on the top. “I’m still learning about all of you, but from what I know, you’re all family to each other. There’s bound to be some rivalry and playful ribbing.”

Pixie nodded. “So, how did you meet Rebel?”

Ruby’s cheeks blushed, but she smiled. Then, she told Pixie the whole story — the scene she was reading with the pink hand towel, the fact that she was eating gummi bears, that she looked up and saw him, that she immediately proceeded to choke on a gummi bear, that Rebel saved her, etc.

By the time Ruby was done with her story, Pixie had a million ideas running through her head. First of all, how freaking adorable was that?! Secondly, she needed to read this book as soon as possible. Thirdly, no wonder he called her Ruby with the way she blushed. And last but not least, how soon could she get her hands on enough pink hand towels to pass out to the Shifty Sisters?

“I can see your wheels turning,” Ruby commented.

Pixie gave her a smile. “I was just thinking about how adorable that story is. I love that.”

Ruby nodded. “It’s pretty awesome.”

“Well, I’m glad you two found each other.”

Pixie made a mental note to find the towels and put together a plan of action.

Chapter sixteen

Rebel

WhileRebel,Ranger, andBrute kept shifting to stay between Dragon and Trip, Trip couldn’t seem to keep his idiot mouth shut.

“You need to relax, man. Maybe we should call Kisy out here.”

“Fuck,” Rebel mumbled under his breath and braced for impact.
