He returned the grin and followed Dragon out of the office.

Rebel

Warm. Rebel was so warm and comfortable. He was lying on his back with his woman’s naked body wrapped around him. It was motherfucking heaven.

His phone vibrated again on the nightstand, letting him know what brought him out of his sleep to begin with. Carefully, he grabbed it and checked to see who was calling him.

Axle.

With a sigh, he carefully extracted himself from Ruby’s hold and sat up. Turning and climbing to his feet, he answered it. “Yeah?”

“Hey. Sorry to call so late, but I thought you’d want to know that they cleaned her place and got rid of his car. It was parked a couple blocks away in an empty storefront parking lot. Anyway, it’s all taken care of. They said most of the blood was on the linoleum. There were a few spots on the carpet, and they cleaned it up, but as long as we keep her from being connected with his disappearance, there’s no reason to be concerned with it.”

Rebel nodded even though Axle couldn’t see him. “Yeah. Thanks, Pres. I appreciate it. I know she does too.”

“No need. We’re family.”

“I’m trying to talk her into moving in with me. So hopefully, the place won’t be her home much longer.”

There was a smile in Axle’s voice when he replied, “Shacking up is good.”

“I think so. Anyway, go to your woman and sleep.”

“Eventually,” Axle replied and ended the call.

Chapter twenty-nine

The next morning… Diamond

Takingadeepbreath,Diamond entered the diner and made her way over to the table that Sugar, Pixie, and Kisy were sitting at. Sitting down in one of the empty chairs, Diamond smiled at each of them.

“Hey.”

They all smiled back and settled into easy chit-chat about the weather, their men, and upcoming birthdays. Not long after she sat down, a person entered the diner from the rear door and slid into a booth in the corner. They were facing away from her and were wearing a hoodie with the hood up, so she couldn’t see what they looked like. The person did have the general body type and size of Niles, though, and she reminded herself not to panic or make anything too obvious.Play it cool, Diamond.

After the ladies placed their breakfast orders with the server, their conversation shifted to the carnival. Diamond took the opportunity to bring up the reason she was there.

“Well, I hope you all have fun at the carnival,” she let her voice rise a bit, “but considering what’s been going on, I’m going to go away for a while.”

“I’m so sorry that happened to you at the park,” Pixie said on a sigh. “You’re still gorgeous, though.”

Diamond gave her a soft smile. “Thanks. I’m just going to go to one of the safe houses for a bit. Rock has a lot on his plate, and I don’t want him worrying about me on top of everything else.”

“When are you leaving?” Kisy asked and leaned in, seemingly focused on what Diamond was saying, but the sly glance over her shoulder told Diamond Kisy was also paying attention to the other people in the diner.

“Tomorrow afternoon. I’m going to help out with one of the carnival food trucks for a while in the morning, then when Gorgeous comes to relieve me, I’ll head out.”

Diamond was so glad that the women were given a heads up about the conversation from Axle and their men, otherwise she knew they would have challenged her on that last bit.

“Right,” Sugar said, softly. “Are you sure you want to go to the safe house though? Alone?”

Diamond shook her head. “Rock has a lot going on. It will be easier, and he will know I’m safe up there. Besides, I can’t complain about having a few moments of peace. I love our kids, but they can be a noisy bunch.”

“I get that. I can convince Dragon to let me come stay with you, or…” Diamond leveled a look at Kisy before Kisy let out a resigned huff. “Are you leaving from the carnival?”

Diamond shook her head. “I’ll go home first and grab my bags.”

“That makes sense,” Pixie commented, but her eyes bugged out a bit. Diamond knew she didn’t approve of their plan. It was dangerous, but Pixie also knew it was going to happen anyway, and she was trying to let Diamond know she hoped their plan worked, just like the texts she sent her before they arrived. Diamond appreciated the women for even putting themselves in that position. She really hoped her goal was achieved, and it wasn’t just a waste of time.
