“It never ends you know.” He leans closer, speaking conspiratorially. As though he is imparting some great wisdom or sharing a secret.

“This entire conversation would move on a lot longer if you were less cryptic my friend.” I tell him.

“What I am trying to say is, you’ve found your mate, and now your love for her will never end. The feeling you’re having now, never goes away.”

“Are you sure?” I am not sure why there is doubt in my voice.

Songbirds soar overhead, manipulated by gentle magic. They perch on every tree, and their beautiful feathers are jewel-like in the light of the fading sun.

Kerym must hear my fear. Maybe he has felt it himself.

My fear that one day one of us will stop loving one another.

He speaks quickly, clapping a hand down on my shoulder.

“It never leaves. You’ve found her. Your love will only continue to grow.”

I nod my gratitude at him, for assuaging my fears. The doubt has vanished too. I know he is right.

The love will never leave us.

The songbirds burst into melodious whistles then, crowning one of the most beautiful days of my life.

“Dad!” Adelaide comes running up to me. She vaults herself up into my waiting arms. I am glad to see that she is becoming quite adept with her magic.

She uses her elvish magic to lift into the air, and settles comfortably in my arms. When I look at her, sparks are still trailing across her navy-blue eyes.

My eyes.

Sometimes I cannot believe that I have a daughter. That I am a father.

Harper walks up to me then, smiling her usual, gentle smile.

She places a hand on Addie’s cheek and our daughter leans into her mother’s palm.

“This little one is tired. She’s had a busy day.” Harper tells me quietly. She lifts her arms and expertly takes Adelaide from me.

Adelaide falls asleep almost right away.

How did Harper manage this on her own for four years?I cannot help but think to myself.

There is so much that I have to make up for.

“Yes, I saw that she was playing with Jasper all day.” I reply. I say a quick goodbye to Kerym, who nods.

I watch as he quickly walks over to Layla, inextricably drawn to her.

Then we head into the house. Addie’s room is on the ground floor, on the other side of the house from us.

Her room is the largest in the house, and comprises of a play room, a bathroom, and a bedroom.

It is painted in shades of pink, yellow, and bright green. I love being in the room, and simply spending time with her there.

Especially since Harper gave me free rein to design, with Addie’s help.

The warm, golden lights flicker on when we walk in. The room is filled with unintentional magic.

Mostly from Adelaide. Magic spills from her. Especially when she is asleep.
