He touched his chest. “Ooph. I deserve it. I do. My full name is Sheppard Sport Jenson.”

I snickered. “Sport?”

“My dad was into the glory days of reliving his high school football career.”

I shook my head. “I’m sorry.”

He shrugged and laughed. “Could be worse.”

“That’s true. When you think things can’t get worse, they always can. Your middle name could’ve been Perry.”

Shep laughed. “Good one.”

I smiled. “I thought so. But I do actually like the name Perry.”

“So do I. It’s why I picked it.”

I watched Shep. “Now, tell me what it was you said earlier that you didn’t regret since you rarely have regrets.”

He laughed and shook his head, but he never took his eyes off me. “You’re relentless.”

“I am.”

“I joked that maybe since we’re both realists when it comes to love, maybe we ought to just have a little fun with it.”

I nearly choked on the water I had just swallowed. “What do you mean?”

His gaze told me all I needed to know. “A fling or two?”

I straightened in my chair even though my body was trembling from the thought. I didn’t do one-night stands.

Shep smiled and shook his head. “You could call me Perry.”

There was something so endearing about this guy, and it was driving me nuts. Never in a million years would I go out on a second date with someone who pretended to be someone they weren’t. Yet, here I was. There was something really boyish and innocent about Shep, even though I could see in his eyes that he was anything but innocent.

“Is your younger brother this flirty?” I asked.

Pride filled Shep’s gaze. “No, he’s far more mature. A great man.”

I swallowed down my nerves and shrugged. His eyes dropped to the fabric of my dress before he pulled his gaze back to mine.

“I’ll have to think about your offer, Perry.”

Shep smiled, looking surprised. “Fair enough.”

“Why do you look so shocked?” I asked.

“I thought you’d either throw a drink in my face or flee the scene.” He glanced at another seaplane landing on the water.

“Yet, you took the risk.”

He laughed, and I loved the sound.

I shouldn’t have, but I did.

“I figured, what did I have to lose?” The look in his eyes made me want to kick every sensible thought to the curb and dive in.

“True.” I nodded. “So, you’re a risk taker.”
