“We are going out tonight.”

It looked like my sister’s eyes were about to pop out of her head.

“Are you serious?” She shook her head in disbelief. “You hate people.”

I frowned. “I do not.”

My sister looked skeptical.

“I just don’t like what people are capable of when it comes to relationships.”

“Mainly men. Not people,” Mae was all too happy to point out.

I shrugged. “Men are people.”

She took a sip of her drink, and I glanced at the clock.

Shep was going to be here in less than an hour. He wouldn’t tell me what we were doing or where we were going.

Being that I always liked to have a plan, it wasn’t doing wonders for my well-being.

I studied my sister as she happily curled her legs under her and looked to be settling in for the duration.

“You’d make cute kids,” my sister offered as I nearly choked on my drink.

“Kids?” I shook my head. “I doubt I’ll see him again after tonight.”

She smacked her knee and frowned. “Come on, Lucy. Live a little. Let him bend you over and—”

“And what, Mae? Spank me like the naughty lawyer that I am?”

She laughed and shrugged before taking a drink. “I was just going to say have a little fun with doggie style, but hey, to each their own.”

I groaned and shook my head. “I was kidding, Mae. I’m not into that.”

She put her hand in the air. “I’m not one to judge. I once dated a guy who could only get into the mood if he sniffed my feet.”

I set my soda down. “Seriously? And you still dated him?”

She chuckled. “What was in store for me after that made it all worth it.”

I squirmed in my chair, realizing I’d never had anything nearly that gratifying. If I were to think back on any of my encounters, I would have preferred a good book with a side of brie and cranberries.

“What?” She leaned forward.

“Nothing.”

“Tell me.”

“Fine. I’ve never been sent into orbit by anyone I’ve ever been with.”

My sister looked at me like I’d grown a third eye in the middle of my forehead.

“No way.”

I smiled, getting a kick out of my sister’s reaction.

“That has to change, and this guy from the bar...” She waggled her brows. “He’s just the man to do it for you.”
