Run.
Hide.
And then I realized I’d been played. I thought I was making her flustered, but she had the final move.
This girl was a hell of a lot of fun.
She smirked. “You wear fitted jeans.”
Without saying another word on that subject, I shook my head and continued from where we were meant to start.
“This is the beta expansion of that little game you said you played.” I grinned. “Actually, I think you said you’re addicted to it.”
Her mouth dropped into a cute pucker.
Damn.
Everything about this woman spoke to me, called to me, and made me fantasize about stripping her clothes off and sliding her onto a desk while she shoved a stack of papers to the floor.
Because I was that good.
And then the fantasy would end, and I’d come back to earth knowing that nothing about being with Lucy was going to be easy. Plus, she was far too organized to slide anything off her desk.
Orgasm be damned, she’d probably stop the moment to neatly stack the pile elsewhere.
Lucy took a step forward, and I snapped my fingers away and slid the jump drive back into my pocket.
“You have to tell me the truth first,” I said softly.
Her arms dropped to her sides as I playfully took in the surroundings of her townhouse.
Everything was crisp, white, and peppered with neutral colors like tan and light sage. I imagined her space gave her the calm she needed after battling it out in the courtroom or with a prospective boyfriend.
I brought my eyes back to hers, and she was smiling.
“You play dirty.” Her mouth quirked up, and it was tough not to scoop her into my arms and kiss her.
But I knew I couldn’t rush anything with her.
“That’s my only requirement, and then you can have access to the next several levels that normal people won’t get to see until a year from now.” I smiled. “All this scrumptious goodness for a simple exchange of the truth.”
Lucy stomped her foot, clenched her fists, and grunted. “Fine. The truth is that my sister thinks she knows my history.”
“History?”
She sucked on her bottom lip for a split second, but it was long enough to make my entire body come alive with desire.
“Dating history.” She shrugged. “Mae thinks that I can love ’em and leave ’em because I see the shadier side of trusting someone. But that’s never been me. I can’t...” She stopped for a second. “Basically, being a divorce lawyer comes with its fair share of complications. I’m not trying to dump you because we haven’t even started being something. I don’t have anything to run from with you yet.”
“Ah, but when you do, I have something to look forward to.”
She laughed and shook her head. “I don’t know. Is that where you see this going?”
“You mean building something together that you want to run away from?” My brows rose, and I chuckled. “Now that is a relationship goal to strive for.”
Lucy laughed and moved a couple of steps toward me. Her sweet and citrusy smell drifted toward me, and the scent was invigorating.
“I am so freaking not the person you should be trying to date.” She pushed her fingers into her temples while looking at me.
