“Anything for you, love. I’ll pick you up after work?”
"Okay.”
She reaches for the door handle but there’s something that’s been on my mind.
“Wait!”
She turns to look at me.
“I’ve been thinking and well, I was wondering if you would go out on a date with me?”
“I would love to.”
She smiles at me and I swear everything is right in the world. I put the car in drive. I need to get to work. I have a date to plan.
CHAPTER 21
Adeline
The day dragsas I wait for Lincoln to pick me up. I’ve been trying to guess what he has planned for our date tonight, all day. I finish up at the shelter and then head outside. Lincoln and the puppies are pulling up right when I get outside.
He goes to get out of the car, I’m sure to open the door for me, but three dogs take that opportunity to jump over the seat. I laugh as he tries to hold them all back and I open the car door to help him. I gently push them back as I crawl into my seat.
“Hey.” I say, still laughing.
Quiche climbs onto his lap and licks his face. I grab Quiche and drag him off of Lincoln and into my lap.
“Hey, buddy.” I coo, “Where’s my kisses?”
“Nope!”
Lincoln’s outburst startles me and I look over at him with wide eyes.
“What?”
“If anyone is giving you kisses, it’s me.” He grumps.
“You’re ridiculous.” I laugh.
He scowls at Quiche as I place him in the backseat with the others. I sit back in my seat and he leans over to me, brushing his lips against mine.
“I missed you, love.” He says.
I can feel the stupid grin split my face and I kiss him back.
“I missed you too.” I admit.
He grins back at me and puts the car in drive, heading home.
We pull up outside our home and I see Aspen, Roman, and Flynn waiting outside. I look questioningly at Lincoln.
“I asked them to watch the puppies tonight while we go out.”
My heart melts. I didn’t even think about what we would do with the puppies but Lincoln is always thinking ahead for us. I lean across the seat and give him another quick kiss before I climb out and help him corral the puppies.
We bring them over to Aspen’s house before making another trip to get their bed and bottles. Once everything is all set at their house, we say goodbye and head back over to our place. I pause. Our place.I don’t know when I started thinking about it like that but it feels right. It feels like home.
“Why don’t you go get ready, love?”
