“Where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise.” He says cryptically.

“How should I dress?”

“Wear whatever you want, love. You’ll always be perfect.”

I blush before I skip past him and up the stairs to our room. I don’t have that many dressy clothes; I’ve never needed to. So instead I put on a pair of clean black skinny jeans and a flowered tunic over a black tank top. I slide my feet into my black Converse.

I decide to leave my hair down and apply only minimal makeup. I line my eyes with mascara and put some chapstick on my lips. Hopefully, we’re not going anywhere super fancy or I’m going to be severely underdressed.

I make my way back into the bedroom and see Lincoln coming out of the closet. He’s got on a pair of dark jeans with a white button-up shirt. He looks so handsome and I’m glad to see that he’s not wearing a suit or something dressier.

“You look beautiful, my love.” He says as he walks across the room to me.

“You look nice yourself.”

“Are you all ready to go?”

“Yeah, I just wanted to grab my purse.”

He follows me down the stairs and I grab my purse off of the counter. He takes my hand and leads me to the door. He opens the door for me and I step outside. The view that is in front of me is so unexpected that I freeze.

Parked in front of the house is a carriage, pulled by the most beautiful horse that I have ever seen. My mouth gapes as I stare at them sitting there.

“Is this for us?” I ask.

“Yes.”

Lincoln takes my hand and leads me down the stairs where the carriage driver hops down and opens the door for us. Lincoln helps me up and inside before he follows after me. I sit down on the plush seat and look around. The inside of the carriage is covered in purple velvet and I can’t stop looking around, trying to take it all in.

We start to move down the street and I smile as I listen to the clip-clop of the horse’s hooves. I look over to Lincoln and see that he’s just staring at me. He smiles when my eyes meet his and leans over, wrapping his arms around me.

“This is awesome.” I say as I look up at him.

“I’m glad you like it, love. You know that all I want is to make you happy.”

“You do.”

“I love you, Adeline. So much.”

I want to say it back to him but suddenly the carriage stops and I look outside to see that we’re in front of some tall building. Lincoln holds his hand out to me and I take it as he helps me down.

“Where are we going?” I ask.

“Up.” He says as he leads me into the building and up the stairs.

We climb up the stairs until we get to a door. Lincoln opens it and leads me out onto a rooftop. The building has been redone with a modern edge to it all. There’s copper pipes and wood everywhere and in the center of it all is a table set up for two. Two waiters stand off to one side, ready to take our orders.

Lincoln leads me over to the table and pulls out a chair for me. He kisses my head before he rounds the table and drops down into his own chair. The waiters step forward and place a chocolate milkshake on the table between us. I laugh as I lean forward and wrap my lips around a straw. Lincoln’s pupils dilate as he watches me suck up some milkshake.

The waiters come over and place two plates in front of us.

“Pizza?” I ask.

“It’s your favorite, right?”

“Yes.”
