Positive thinking, Mel. It’s all going to be alright.

I was sweating like crazy in the car, I had a hard time getting out, especially with my shorts stuck to the seat. I hadn’t stopped for hours, not even to have a bite to eat. I’d been kicked out of my apartment this morning and the only thing I had thought about doing was getting to my new home.

Bridget did offer to let me stay at her place for a couple of nights, but she had her auntie staying with her in one-bed apartment. Her aunt stayed to help her with childcare, and she gave her aunt a place to stay for free.

“That’s what family do. They help each other out.”

I could do with her comfort right now, as I peeled myself off my leather chair and tried to leave my car. Then I had a peek into the back, before grabbing my purse and shutting the door.

I kept saying under my breath that it was all going to be alright. Over and over again, a little exercise I’d learned from positive meditation. I must admit, after I started the exercise, not only did I lose my job but I found this one, all in the same day.

I was tired of the owner of the diner, Russ, constantly smacking my butt as if I was his wife. One time when were in the diner alone, he’d decided to take it a little further. This was when I’d ran. Unfortunately with the contacts he had in Fairmont, he told everyone that I was a thief and I lost my job, and no one would hire me.

I carefully put the nozzle in the tank and then watched as the dials increased and soon it reached my goal, $10. It felt like I’d only just put the nozzle in the tank and I spent half of my money in less than seconds.

I did a quick check to see if anyone was watching, but then shook my head thinking I was being silly. No one would care about someone like me, seeing as I knew no one in this area.

“Please, don’t wake up,” I whispered as I bent down to look at Dwayne sleeping in the back.

He was only six months old, but he’d been left with whoever I could find to look after him as cheap childcare from the day after he was born due to all my bills. It wasn’t easy being a single mom, and even harder being alone with no family.

I decided to quickly run into the gas station, leaving him in the car with the window slightly open.

“Shit!” I screamed as I bumped into a guy as I opened the door. “Sorry, I didn’t look where I was going…”

“Hush darling,” he snarled as he held on to me as if we knew each other.

His dark long hair and biker jacket said it all. He was part of an MC and judging by the way he was smiling, I’d seen it with Russ one too many times, he wasn’t just holding my hand. His hand was firmly on my butt.

I tried to pull away and he hesitated in releasing me, then pulled me closer towards him. My eyes raced across the store, hoping that someone would pay attention to what was going on here, but it was as if this guy made everyone look the other way, which scared me even more.

What was I going to do?

Silver

I’d had a rough day, and I was pissed that I didn’t put enough juice in the Harley yesterday. I pulled into the store and saw this blonde wrestling and trying to get away from Steel. I fucking hated him with a vengeance. He was just bad news. He gave all motorcycle clubs bad names. Then it Andreaed on me…

What the fuck was he doing here?

He was the head of the rival MC, Outlaw Saints and he was on our turf. Steel was the type that raped women in front of their husbands or anyone who he wanted to hurt. He fed on the weakness of others. He had little respect for women, let alone anyone else.

“Let go of her, Steel. You shouldn’t even be here!”

He pushed her to the ground, and I knew what he was going to do next. So I rushed up to him near the middle of the store, and got the punch in before he had a chance to even give me one.

My fist crashed against his face, and I could hear the sounds of his bones crunch. He backed away from me, but I didn’t give him a chance to recover as I smashed him again.

“The lady said to leave her alone,” I snarled, warning him that if he tried to hit me again, he would get another punch.

“And?” he spat out, and then popped out a tooth.

“Fuck you, Silver!” he spat at me and tried to get up.

I noticed that girl he was trying to abuse was huddled at the side. Her eyes were wide and she was crying. I didn’t mean to scare her, but I wanted her out of the store. Not in it.

“You shouldn’t be here,” I growled at Steel.
