I shook my head. “Fucking her was a mistake, one that I won’t be making again in a hurry.”
I remembered the words her mom had said, about me being a shit boyfriend and her finding someone else. It cut like a knife, but it made perfect sense. Why else would the woman I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with not even return my calls?
I had to get some fresh air, maybe stay away for a couple of days. Too many fucking memories flashed through my mind in the space of one week, and I’d kept them under lock and key inside my head for nearly two years.

Ihadn’t seen Scar today or yesterday. It was getting to the lunch time rush and I was hoping to accidentally bump into him as I entered the kitchen for an order.
“Don’t worry, he’ll turn around. I think he’s just feeling a little jealous and he’s trying to figure out how not to get us evicted,” Silver smiled as he came behind me.
I wrapped my arms around him. I didn’t know why I felt so emotional, but I did within a split second.
“If it wasn’t for you, Dwayne and I would be sleeping in the parking lot of the gas station. I owe you…”
He moved his arms slightly down my waist, and it was as if for a moment there was an attraction between us which I hadn’t noticed until now.
Scratch walked in, and I couldn’t help but back away from Silver.
“What were you kids up to?”
“Nothing!” I said as I felt myself grow red and then walked away from him, forgetting what I went to the kitchen for in the first place.
“Andrea, what are you doing here?” I had a wave of panic as I saw her behind the bar.
“Remember I told you that today’s a big day? It’s going to be busy, and Nan said she would come in and cover for me.”
I nodded my head, thinking she told me about it and I had completely forgotten. I was staying in their house rent free and acting as if I owned the place. I’d only been here a week. Maybe I should leave.
“Mel. Take a deep breath. Get behind the bar and help me out.”
I nodded my head at her orders, there was so much tension in the air. She wore her gold dress, and I remembered her saying that the place would be lively and we had to give out a party impression.
They’re MCs, which means they know how to drink and party!
“Let’s get this fucking party started!” shouted the guy on the mike from the live band they had playing tonight.
Some guys were on the door, because as Andrea said, they loved to party and drink which at times got rough. Getting into fights meant that the police, especially with the way things were delicate at the moment, could come to the club and close it down.
So many thoughts were running through my mind, like what would happen to the club and the house if that did happen? Where would they all go? They wouldn’t be part of the circuit which had been created at the back for the races which Silver had explained was part of their main income.
Without it they would have to go back to whatever they were doing before, and by the sounds of it, it wasn’t legal or nice.
I felt like Alice in Wonderland as I served and put a smile on my face as if I belonged here. I had my hair up in a bun, with jeans and a silver top that Andrea had leant me, but no one treated me as if I didn’t belong. If anything they acted as if I was one of them and I loved the feeling.
“Get a drink, darling. You look as if you need one!” A darkened haired guy with matching eyes smiled as he pointed at me.
“Well, it seems as if someone has a fan!” Andrea winked as she passed me.
The guy was hot, there was no denying. Sure, I’d slept with Scar but there was too much emotional baggage.
I couldn’t tell him that Dwayne was his child, he would want to be with me for the wrong reasons. Then what happened with Silver earlier, and him bringing me to the club had been playing on my mind. I felt an attraction between us, but he was my son’s grandson.
Maybe this guy. This ‘fan’.
Maybe it would get rid of all the friction.
