Jake shrugged and dragged her off. She couldn’t stop smiling. The songs being played were Western and upbeat, with some line dancing.

Jake pulled her into his arms, keeping some space between them. He took one of her hands and set the other on her waist. He danced her around the yard spinning her until she was laughing so hard, she could barely breathe.

“Oh, my God, Jake. I’m going to pass out.”

He studied her for a moment and then shook his head. “Nah, you’re good.”

She laughed. “Okay. How about I’ll puke all over you?”

He stopped immediately, pulled her to Nick, and shoved her into his arms.

“Take your woman and fix her,” Jake said.

She sputtered and laughed.

Nick smiled and tucked her close to his side. “Why? What did you do to her?”

“She wants to vomit on me.”

The guys laughed.

“He can handle gallons of blood but never puke,” Link said.

They watched Jake walk away and grab another beer.

“Oh, no. Have I ruined his night?” she asked, worried.

The guys chuckled.

“No, he’ll just drink a beer and be good,” Macy said.

She nodded, relieved.

It was past one in the morning when everyone started to head home. There was nothing to clean up because the girls had helped her in the kitchen, and the guys helped Nick clean up the outside. Janessa hugged Natalie one more time before she slid into her truck.

“Night, Roadkill,” Lewis called out.

She laughed. “Night.”

Nick came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her after they left.

“Did you have a good time?” he asked.

“God, yes. I can’t remember having that much carefree fun before,” she said. “How about you?”

“The same. I’d like to do this again sometime.”

She looked up over her shoulder at him. “We could do it once a month or every other.”

“That’s a good idea. We’ll discuss it later. Right now, let’s get some sleep. I know I’m whipped, and you’ve been going in high gear since this morning.”

Nick took her hand and pulled her into the house. He waited for Luna to come in before shutting and locking it.

“Go up and shower. I’ll be right up.”

She nodded and walked off.

After her shower, she brushed her teeth and slid into bed. She hadn’t realized she’d fallen asleep until he came in behind her and wrapped his arms around her.
