He chuckled and kissed the top of her head. “It’s because the orgasm was bigger than normal. Your body’s not used to your ass being invaded like that.”
“And the spanking,” she said. “That wasn’t fun.”
He smiled at the petulant tone of her voice. “You deserved it, right?”
“Whatever,” she murmured and started to play with the water.
Her attitude was what he expected, but he didn’t know how cute it would be. He’d have watched his back for a while if he had said that out loud.
Her head turned to the side and caught his grin.
“You wouldn’t happen to be amused by this, would you?”
“I can’t help it. You’re so damn adorable right now.”
“Nick,” she said sternly. “You shouldn’t laugh. My ass is tender on the outside and inside. You should feel remorse.”
His eyes widened. “Remorse? For what?”
“You made me achy.”
He tilted her head up enough to kiss her. “You better get used to it, little squirrel, because it will happen often.”
If he wasn’t mistaken, he just saw her bottom lip stick out in a pout.
“How about this?” he said. “How about I promise to make it feel good?”
“I like that idea.” She nodded and turned back around to play with the water.
“I should warn you that it will feel good as long as you behave.” He felt her tense. “That won’t be so hard, will it?”
He couldn’t help but laugh at the little growl that came from her. Jesus, he’d never get sick of being with her and was so glad he’d found her.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Janessa got out of her truck and grabbed the little monster she’d brought home before it tumbled out of the truck.
“Just wait, you little brat.” She rolled her eyes when it licked her face.
“Hey, little squirrel. Do you need any help?” Nick said from the back steps.
“No, I’ve got it,” she yelled.
She put the thing in a box and covered it with a blanket, and instantly the thing started to poke his nose out.
“Just give me two minutes, and then you’ll be free,” she whispered.
It seemed to have settled down enough for her to carry it. Nick was throwing the ball for Luna.
“What in the world? Are you sure you don’t need help?” he asked.
“Yes, I think I do.”
She stood and lifted the box. She saw his hands tighten on it when it moved.
“What the hell.” Nick set it on the ground, pulled off the blanket, and stood staring at the German shepherd puppy.
“Happy anniversary,” she said.
