“May I cut in?” Alessandro placed his hand on Luca’s shoulder.
“She’s all yours,” Luca said with a grin. “Later Daisy.”
I chuckled and shook my head at Luca before Alessandro took my hand and pulled me to him. The music switched to another upbeat song, and I swayed my hips, matching Alessandro’s rhythm.
I liked to see his lighthearted side as he spun me around and pulled me back to him in a classic Gatsby-esque style. His eyes shimmered as we laughed. Everyone around us faded into the background and I lost track of time, forgetting where we were or our current situation. We were having fun. I hadn’t had fun in a long time.
The music shifted and slowed. Alessandro wrapped his arm around my waist, holding my hand with the other, and I laid my head on his shoulder while I worked to catch my breath.
“This is fun,” I glanced up at him and he smiled softly down at me.
“I have to admit, this is the most fun I’ve ever had at one of these parties.”
“Really? I feel like I’ve been monopolizing all your time.”
“I don’t mind.” There was a comfortable silence for a while as we swayed in each other’s arms.
He turned me around, my back pressing against his chest. His hands flexed on my hips as I moved against him. He pulled me firm against his hard body and I could feel his growing arousal pressing against my backside with each sway of my hips.
He let out a soft growl, snaking his arm around my waist and pulling me firm against him as he changed our motion, rolling our hips together to the sensual beat. He ran his fingertips through the fringe of the dress, down my exposed thighs, and back up, pulling my dress along with it just enough to tease.
My breathing became ragged as and I closed my eyes, imagining his hands freely roaming my body without the hindrance of our clothes.
Alessandro dipped his head, kissing up my neck, bringing his lips close to my ear. “Come with me.”
He took my hand and gently wound us through the crowd to the door beside the bar. He glanced around before opening it and sliding inside.
I looked around at a large supply room with wine crates, and kegs lining the walls.
“What are we doing in here?”
“I just needed to be alone with you,” Alessandro said desperately as he stepped toward me, cupping my cheek as he pinned me against the wall.
His eyes searched mine for permission as his lips drew closer and while I knew I should stop him, I couldn’t. I didn’t want to. I tilted my head, offering my lips to Alessandro and he quickly dove into a passionate, all-consuming kiss.
I needed him. My desire for him was almost painful and it must have felt the same to him because he suddenly turned me around and pinned me against the wall with his body. He ran his hands down the curve of my hips, grabbing at the hem of my dress and tugging it up.
He kissed my exposed shoulder, up my neck before pulling back just enough to whisper against my skin. “Do you want to know a secret?”
“I seem to be hearing a lot of those tonight,” I mumbled, distracted by his hands and lips on me.
“Hmm?” Alessandro hummed against my skin.
I turned around in his arms to face him. “Never mind. What’s your secret?”
“I didn’t like seeing you dancing with someone else.”
I lifted my brow, the corner of my lips twitching up. “We slept together once and you’re turning possessive on me?”
“Nah,” he smiled, tugging me hard against him. “I was possessive before then.”
I chuckled but the look in his eyes told me that he was being serious, and my smile faded. I liked Alessandro, and yes, I was attracted to him, but that didn’t mean that I belonged to him, or that we had any kind of future. He was still part of the mafia, a loyal member. He wasn’t going to leave them for me, and I had no intention of leaving my entire life behind to be a mob doctor.
Alessandro’s brow knitted together as he looked down at me thoughtfully. “There’s something I need to tell you...” Alessandro was interrupted by a loud crash from the main room, and we froze. “What the hell?”
There was another loud crash, and we ran toward the door. Alessandro cautiously peeked out, and I caught a glimpse of someone being thrown over a table and crashing into two chairs before landing on the floor. Teo was there in a flash, crouching over the man. He grabbed him by the collar and punched him again in the face just before another man jumped on Teo’s back.
“Stay here,” Alessandro told me urgently before running toward the fight.
