“You’re never leaving, Babe,” he murmured, knowing she couldn’t hear him, and then kissed the top of her head and slept.
Chapter Seven
Jada woke up the next morning to hear the shower on and splashing. She had no idea what provoked her, but she suddenly jumped out of bed, grabbed her robe, and ran to her room.
She knew he’d probably be pissed, but she couldn’t face him yet. The way he’d made her feel the night before overwhelmed her, and she needed to calm down before seeing anyone. Especially him. She locked the door and pulled the nightstand in front of it so he couldn’t get in. She took her time showering, and it helped to settle her a bit. After she blow-dried her hair, she peeked out the bathroom door to see her bed empty, and exhaled.
Good, maybe he was being nice and giving her some time. She dressed with care before heading back to the kitchen to help with breakfast. Her gaze scanned the rooms she walked through, but she didn’t see Titan. She thought she was being silly, but she really wanted to see him now that she’d calmed down.
“Good morning,” she said with a bright smile to the women. “What are we making this morning?”
“Pancakes and sausage,” Tara said. “What do you want to do?”
“I’ll take sausage because it’s everyone’s least favorite thing to do.”
“Sounds good,” Lindsey said and grinned.
Jada started putting the sausage links in the huge skillet on the stove. She’d gotten several rounds done before people started walking through. She tried to keep a lookout for Titan, but she hadn’t seen him yet. Almost everyone had walked through, and she was busy cleaning the pan.
Kyra walked over and wrapped an arm around her waist. “Hey, you’re very quiet. What’s up?”
Jada lowered her hands. “Titan and I … you know.”
Kyra smiled and nodded. “Yes, I know. Was it good?”
“God, it was the best thing I’ve ever felt in my life.”
“That’s good. So. What’s the problem?” Kyra asked.
“This morning, he was in the shower, and I ran to my room. I even pushed furniture in front of the door because he broke in the last time. I just needed a few minutes to calm down and think rationally. I’ve been watching for him, but he hasn’t come through, has he?”
Kyra scowled. “No. I haven’t seen him at all.”
“Is he with Dre, do you think?” Jada asked.
“I don’t know. I can ask around.”
“Yes, please. I hope I didn’t fuck everything up.”
Kyra snorted. “That’s nothing. It’s not like you left the compound.”
“That’s true.”
“Let me check.”
“I’ll get you a plate and take it to the table,” Jada said.
Kyra nodded and left.
A few more stragglers went through, but there was still a lot of food left. The girls had gotten good at determining how much of everything to make. It helped keep the chaos from taking over.
Jada was listening to Lindsey when Kyra sat down next to her. “Did you find out anything?”
“Kind of. I was told that several men left this morning. I, of course, didn’t ask for what. But they might be gone a few days.”
She felt Kyra hug her.
“What’s going on?” Zoe asked.
