Blackwell crouched down next to me. “We were thinking that Zain would try to get a bird’s-eye view of the place, to see just how large it is, and then the rest of us would split up to take each part of the island in sectors.”
“Everyone stays in pairs, even Zain,” I said, not liking the idea of any of them being alone.
“Unfortunately I can’t take anyone with me,” Zain said, “but everyone else should be able to pair up. Blackwell and Damian, Razar and Cy, Amun and Saint.”
The last pairing was a horrible idea, but neither of them complained about it, so…
“Ashur and I?” I frowned.
“Stay here on the beach until we know it’s safe,” Blackwell said as he ran a hand over my back. I nearly huffed but nodded, having promised them I would be careful. Plus, hiking through the woods with me would slow them down.
“Ashur can create anything, so I would say you are safe,” Saint pointed out happily before narrowing his eyes at Ashur. “I think.”
At least he wasn’t threatening him with death, so that was a nice change.
“Alright.” I swallowed and looked up at them. “Let’s do this. But please come back here before approaching them—I don’t want to scare them.” Although with the amount of power I was sensing, maybe they were the ones we should be afraid of.
After a quick goodbye from each, my mates split up, and I watched Zain shift before going airborne. Ashur sat down next to me facing the shore, trying to appear relaxed as he looked out over the water.
“Can you feel it?” I asked, wanting confirmation since I was so new to magic.
“The magic?” Ashur rumbled. “Yes, my moon, I can feel it. It’ll make me shift, if I’m not careful.”
“I wouldn’t mind that,” I admitted.
Ashur’s soft chuckle was tinted with a dark edge. “You would if I lost control in that form. I’m already struggling right now.”
I frowned in confusion. “With what?” I crawled closer towards him, running my hand over his shoulder, and let out a surprised squeak when he tugged me on his lap and again wrapped one hand around the back of my neck.
“Control.” He exhaled, his gaze running over my lips.
“What are you trying to control yourself from doing?” I shifted and my eyes widened, realizing just how hard he was. I think I had a small idea of what he was talking about now. Actually, there was nothing small about it.Christ.
Ashur shook his head and I nibbled my lip, unable to help myself from pushing. I leaned forward and brushed my nose against his, loving the sensation of being so close to him. It was like a magnetic field was building between us.
“Arabella…”
“Tell me.”
Ashur growled and tightened his grip on my neck, forcing me to look up at him. “I’m trying to control myself from burying myself inside of you—from marking you. It’s not the right time. Fuck, it’s even dangerous considering where we are, but you aren’t making it easy, my moon.”
Good. I didn’t want him to control himself.
He was right in a sense, but I also didn’t feel like we were in danger here. My magic rolled under my skin, and I nipped his lip, my back hitting the sand as he caged me there.
“I’m warning you, Arabella,” he rumbled, “I’m already on edge from that damn conversation earlier about you being pregnant.”
“Why?” I whispered, wanting to hear him say it because Iknewhis reaction to the conversation wasn’t bad in the least. Wanting him to repeat those words he’d said that first night about breeding me.
“Because I haven’t marked you,” he growled softly. “I haven’t filled you with my cum. I haven’t been given the honor to breed you, my moon, and the need to do so is driving me fucking crazy.”
I inhaled sharply at his intensity, running my hand up his face and tightening my legs around his hips. His body dropped slightly so his cock was pressed right against the apex of my thighs.
“Ashur, you don’t need to control yourself. That’s exactly what I want.”
