“Trust is built,” I say. “And the only way we can build it with you is for you to give us the chance to show you that we’re trustworthy.”

“And how is this going to do that?” she demands.

“The fact that I let you know who was calling should tell you something,” Julian says. “I could have lied about it. I knew you weren’t going to be happy when you found out who it was, but I told you just the same.”

“He does have a point,” I say. “You know the only way we can come to you and tell you what’s really going on is if you aren’t psycho when we do. None of us want to deal with a woman who goes crazy when we try to talk about our lives.”

Jeanette takes a deep breath.

“Okay, that’s fair,” she says. “But I still don’t love the idea that you’re going to go meet with her. I mean, who’s to say she’s not going to try something with you guys? Who’s to say you’re not going to get caught up in the heat of the moment and do something with her? It just kills me to think that I might lose you, and after what we went through already I just don’t want to risk it.”

“I know you don’t,” I say. “But all three of us are going to be there, and I really don’t think she’s going to try to make a move on the three of us.”

“More than that, we’re going to meet at a coffee shop,” Julian says. “I’m telling her right now that we would like to meet in a public place, and after Terry gets back with the food, we’re going to tell him what’s going on too. Trust me, Jeanette, we don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable about this, and if there’s anything we can do that will help ease your mind while we’re getting through this, we’ll do it.”

At that moment, Terry walks in with the food. He looks around the room at the three of us, and it’s clear he’s confused.

“What did I miss?” he asks.

“Growing pains,” I say. “But I think we’re working through it. Clarissa wants us to meet with her to talk.”

“Fuck, about what?” he asks.

“Hendrix, I’m assuming,” I say.

“Doesn’t anyone think it’s strange that she’s here?” Jeanette asks. “Is the day ever going to come when she’s not going to follow you guys from place to place?”

“I don’t think she believed us when we said we were going to come win you back,” I say. “And now she can see that we are serious, and she wants to finish things with us. I don’t think it’ll take much longer for her to get the message loud and clear.”

“I hope not,” Jeanette says. “I can’t go through the rest of my life with her always after us. It makes me think that I always have to keep my eye out for her, or keep an eye out behind me or she’s going to come up and do something crazy.”

“Try not to worry about her,” Terry says. “We’re going to take care of this, and you’re never going to have to hear her name again. Just give us the chance to work through this, and that’ll be that.”

“You good?” I ask her. “Do you trust us to go take care of this?”

There’s an agonizing few moments of her staring down at the floor. I can tell she’s thinking. She’s not happy, but she knows that this is going to be the way our relationship works. She’s going to have to learn to trust us, just like we have to be able to be vulnerable and honest with her.

It’s not easy on either side of the relationship, but if it’s going to work for all of us, then we all have to understand that this relationship will be full of compromise.

“How long will this meeting take?” Jeanette asks. “I mean, do you have a lot you have to get through still?”

“Not really,” I tell her. “Just a few topics we haven’t sorted out yet. It’s not going to take more than an hour or two, tops. I bet you anything she doesn’t want to do this any more than we do, but we have to get through it because that’s the legal side of shit with things like this.”

“Alright,” she says with a nod. “I’m choosing to trust you on this, but I’m going out on a limb doing it. Please don’t hurt me with this.”

“We won’t,” I say.

I walk over and wrap my arms around her, then I use my finger to tilt her chin upward. I kiss her, holding her against me as I do. I know she can feel how aroused I’m getting, and it’s not long before she’s moaning.

“Do we have time for a romp in the sheets before we have to go?” Terry asks.

“I always have time for my woman,” I say.

She giggles as I scoop her up in my arms, then I carry her over to the bed. Both my brothers follow. There’s no way they’re going to pass up the chance to have sex with her, even if we have to get going to this meeting.

The way I see it, this is a great way for us to not only show her that she’s the one for us, it’s a great way for all of us to relieve some of the tension we have built up inside us. It will be best for everyone for us to go to this meeting with Jeanette satisfied and sore, and with us relieved and relaxed.

It doesn’t take us long, but it’s long enough to show Jeanette that she’s the priority in our lives, and we aren’t going to run off with anyone else, not even the mother of our son.
